Save or Splurge?, Vol. 17: Birkenstock-Style Sandals

sosbirkenstock
Save or Splurge? is a post where I’ll show you an item from Target and its higher end cousin.

Two weeks in a row of “controversial” footwear? Yeah, I like to live on the edge here at Style On Target. See last week’s post on peep toe booties (here) and get ready to debate Birkenstocks.

Let me just say that I should never say never (thanks Taylor Swift!), but there is a 99% chance that Birkenstock style sandals will never grace my feet. I just can’t get behind the slide style sandals…ever. But to each their own, and this sandal is making a HUGE appearance on and off the runway this year. If you are on the lookout for a pair of silver (or black) Birkenstock sandals, keep reading! The sandal on the left is the official Birkenstock sandal (here) and sells for $130. The one on the right is from Target’s Sam & Libby brand (here) and retails for $100 less (aka $30 for you non-math people).

What do you think? Are you Team Birkenstock? Don’t worry, we can still be friends!

  • Yeahhhhh, I really don’t see myself wearing these sandals, ever! Really not my style either!

  • I’m with you on this one!

I think this is a another shoe style that looks funky on my feet since they’re so big (toes included). I used to own sandals like this though…no one is surprised. :) I might try on the knockoff if they have different colors though…worth a shot since they’re comfy!

I used to feel the same way. I have real Birks (that I bought in Germany) that are more of a flip flop style and I love them. Super comfy and easy to wear. Don’t knock it until you try it!

    • Amazing point, Jen! I have not tried them on my feet, and I chastise people all the time for not trying things on. These shoes may very well surprise me. I’ll try to at least put them on next time I’m at my local Target! (Sincere thanks for the inspiration)!

I used to feel that way until I developed some lower body muscle pain and needed properly supportive footwear. Once I put them on, I was HOOKED. Also, they have many different styles these days, the thong style is my personal choice.
