Fall Capsule #1: Red Dress – Madewell Inspired

Yesterday’s look (here if you missed it) showed how Kate Spade might have styled this dress…

Today, I’m going to show you how the Madewell brand might style it.

A lot of layering (dress + sweater + vest + scarf), a little masculine (hello oversized sweater and menswear flats), and a little classic color combination (gray and red is perfect for fall).

Take that all and wrap it up with a bit of plaid (the Madewell website is covered in plaid right now), and you’ve got a totally different look than yesterday’s classy ensemble.

One that’s a whole lot more casual, but just as fun.

I honestly can’t decide which look I like better. The Kate Spade-inspired look is perfect for champagne parties, and the Madewell-inspired look is perfect for more casual shindigs.

Which is your favorite look?

  • Cute layering! I like that it’s not bulky! I also love that vest! I think it’s time I took mine out from the depths of my closet!

  • And now this! Red dress conquered. I think I might have to love the Madewell-inspired one best, it’s just got so many great things going on. I’m inspired to try layering up my fit & flare dress a bit more – I haven’t really done dresses at all since it got cold since I can get away with jeans every day if I want…

  • You’re totally selling me on layering sweaters etc. over dresses. Why have I never tried that before? Genius!

I love both too! I think the Kate Spade style is my favorite because it’s more feminine. I really like the layers on the Madewell inspired look though. I like that you decided to go with no tights on that one because that would probably make it look too busy, but I require tights now that the warm weather is long gone!

  • I love this idea for a post. So creative – J
