Winter Meltdowns

Oh hello, winter.

After a quiet December, snow finally arrived here in Indianapolis.

Boo.

The morning that these photos were taken, The Husband and I got up early (what adults we are!!) to shovel the snow and/or figure out how to use the snow blower my parents bought us for Christmas. It’s going great. I’m shoveling up a storm, Cooper (the dog) is romping around like it is his first time in snow (it’s not), and The Husband is trying to not suck up rocks and shoot them out towards our windows. Anyways, together we finish the driveway about 10 minutes before I normally leave for work (are we responsible or what?), and I go inside to warm up with a cup of coffee before leaving (so adult!). I look down about 30 seconds later, and there’s little drops of blood all over the kitchen floor…and all over our cream carpet! Ahhh!

Cooper had gotten a cut on his foot while at my parents’ home while they were babysitting him. They took him to the vet and got his foot all wrapped up (they’re really responsible grand-puppy-parents) and apparently the cut had reopened while he was running amok. Puppy parenting fail.

But needless to say, I hate snow, I hate winter…and I was late for work.

  • 1. so sorry to hear about the puppy wound – poor guy!
    2. i want a snow blower
    3. THESE PICTURES! so crisp and so clear. teach me your ways!

    • I shot these with a tripod/remote with a 50mm f/1.8 lens behind a Meijer store! ;) So classy. I actually shoot on auto (though my camera does have a background defocus function), because I am super lazy right now (with the cold weather) to learn how to use my camera. Sometimes it works (aka here) and sometimes it doesn’t work as well. But thank you so much for the kind woooooords! ;)

I second Fran’s picture comment. Beautiful. And so picturesque – where did you find this spot?! If it’s your backyard, I’m coming over.

My backyard is not so pretty, but you are welcome to shoot photos there too! ;) Cooper (the dog) might join you in the fun!

  • Poor coop! I hope his boo boo heals up quickly. But no, seriously, y’all are such adults. I’m typically late to work and then apply my makeup when I get there. lol. Also, I’m going to be the third to say these pictures are gorgeous. I love the pop of red against the background as well as the pattern on the sweater.

    • Thanks so much, Meghan! I’m not so adult-like in other ways (aka spill everything and anything on my clothes!).

  • great photos, your sweater looks so cozy

  • lady, please tell me about your experience with bean boots. i live in a very wintry climate myself (oh, i’ve felt like way more of an adult than i care to some days when i am out shoveling) but i do not own proper winter boots. another example of how it’s time for me to become an adult and invest in some proper winter footwear. how warm do you find these boots keep your feet?

    • Hey Heidi! I love them. Definitely worth the splurge. They’re not the warmest boots ever (I have heard good things about Sorel boots, though, for warmth), but I love that they are good for winter (with thick socks) and can be used for hiking/outdoor activities and can double as rain boots. Plus, they have a crazy lifetime guarantee (see here: http://www.llbean.com/customerService/aboutLLBean/guarantee.html?nav=hp-guaranteefooter), so it is an ideal investment in that sense! Hope that helps!

      • thanks so much for your review, i have been looking at a lot of different sorel boots but i must have started my boot search at the wrong time because all of the styles i find that i like aren’t sold in my size. grr! and the same goes for bean boots, because the style rated for -5* is backordered and not available until june! haha that is so pointless, who needs winter boots in june?!
