October must have been month-of-buy-all-the-sweaters-ever, because that’s exactly what I did! I’ll blame it on the fact that Target had some great sweater sales this month, and I always just really love their sweater styles. A couple people have asked my review of them, and it basically boils down to this: they don’t hold up for years and years (maybe like 3-4), and they’re usually not super thick, but they get the job done and they’re great for layering (plus, you don’t have to worry too much if you spill chili or coffee on them…not that that’s happen to anyone here). I am looking to invest in some “better” sweaters this year, but you can’t beat a Target sweater deal!

If it wasn’t a sweater this month, it was really just a staple building piece: nude wedge pumps, colored utility pants,  a black flare skirt, and a gray v-neck tee. All things that I have been looking to add/replace in my closet, and I’m glad to have found so many that will work so well! Minus that, I also added some fun pieces to my wardrobe: a maroon purse (so pretty) and a buffalo print blanket scarf…just plain fun and cozy!

I also didn’t count this in my budget, but I bought this navy sweater from L.L.Bean instead of a cable knit sweater from Ireland that was suppose to be my souvenir. This one looked better than the dozens that I tried on in Ireland and was cheaper too, so win? I also wore my black Merona ballets flats all over Europe and ended up wearing a hole in them (#travelhazards), so I replaced them with these new black Merona ballets flats, and I love them already!

Things That Didn’t End Up Working
+ These black/white print loafer flats from Target – I thought that these were more brown than black, and they were just thin with no support in general.
+ The spacedye mixed media top from Loft – a couple other bloggers mentioned that they loved this top, so I ordered it as part of my flash sale order from Loft. The front looked great, and then I looked at the back in the mirror. I thought I paid for a full shirt, not 1/2 of one. Yes, I could have checked the website for a photo of the back, but I didn’t…so back to Loft it went.

I’m thinking of doing a half budget or spending freeze in December, so November will probably include more colder weather items, as fall is my favorite time to buy clothes, so I’ll try to be getting it all out of my system in November…plus Black Friday/Cyber Monday are always great great GREAT times to get the most out of my budget.

How did you do this month on your budget? I’m linking up with Franish’s Budgeting Bloggers, and you should too!

  • I bought a different pair of quilted black flats from target (mossimo) and they aren’t nearly as comfortable as those navy ones! I should have bought that matching black pair!

I like waaaay too many of the target sweaters you bought so I may have to try those again. I don’t expect a $20 sweater to hold up forever but a few years at that price is ok. I did get one of that plain crew neck one you linked and it’s so soft!! Very much looking forward to wearing it (and buying at least one more). I’m on a spending freeze until thanksgiving week sales though!

  • Dabney Smith

I just got those wedge pumps in blush and black!! Love them!!! I’m curious though, in your January budget post you included a navy floral dress from Target. I’ve got the same one, but I haven’t worn it yet because I’m just not sure I love it (though I wear the polka dot version all the time!). You’ve never pictured it on your blog, so do you still have it? Wear it? Can you help me style it??

  • Rebecca

Looking at that half loft shirt makes me really upset. Why would they do that?!

  • You got so many great deals this month! How’s the fit on those sateen pants from ON? I need a replacement pair of olive pants for after my baby is born, and I was thinking of trying those.
I would have returned that Loft top too–it would have been such a great shirt if they hadn’t done that weird thing with the back!

  • Your wardrobe additions this month are all perfect fall purchases.

I’m looking at “No Shop November,” but completely forgot about Black Friday deals, so we’ll see how this goes…

  • Target did have some great sales on their sweaters this month. I loved some of the longer open cardigan ones they offered.

Fall is my Achilles heel of shopping times. I’ll drop off drastically in November and December and then buy all the things come January.

  • cute! I love that scarf!

  • I love how cohesive your purchases are! I think it’s really cool when that happens, haha. Mine were the same way this month and I didn’t even notice until I made my collage. I realllllly like the look of those Old Navy pants. The color is perfect for fall/winter.

  • Jessa

If you love the LLBean sweater more than the Irish wool version than I think you made a fair trade, it”s always better to go with what you love. The wine coloured crossbody is tres chic.

Wow you made some amazing purchases…so many practical pieces added to your wardrobe for so little. Also, every time I go into Target, I see that scarf. I’ve been fighting the urge to buy it (because I don’t need it) but my resolve is wavering.
