You know that saying about gifts? Something along the lines of “it’s the thought that counts.” My brother is known to give 100% thoughtful and super creative gifts, but not necessarily ones that hit a homerun with the gift receiver.

For example, this year he wanted to give The Husband a milk delivery service, because he thought he really really REALLY liked milk. He doesn’t, but if he did…how great of a gift would that have been? Definitely something I wouldn’t thought of…

So this year (instead of last year’s present: getting personalized Style On Target logo coffee mugs, since he knows that I love coffee…and this blog…so much), my brother gifted me with this skirt! So from far way, it probably looks like your average black and white patterned skirt, but up close? Up close, it is a map of my favorite neighborhood (aka where I would move to immediately) in Amsterdam! How cool is that?

The skirt comes from a company called Monochome where you can apparently get this skirt (or a tote bag or a t-shirt or a throw pillow) printed with a map of your hometown, your first date spot, your current address, or just your general favorite location! Each piece is obviously custom made, so I’m the only one in the world with this Amsterdam print skirt! Super neat, and a great unique gift guide! So if you’re looking for something special for someone special, be sure to keep it in mind for gifts for Valentine’s Day, birthdays, or next year’s holiday season!

And yes, I do feel that Amsterdam would be proud of how I styled this look. ;)

  • Oh man, I LOVE this! Off to give some strong hints to a few people re: my upcoming birthday :)

  • What a COOL IDEA! And I love how you styled it. So great with ankle boots and a pop of red.

I’m late to the party on this, but I LOVE that skirt and am thinking of getting one of my own! Do you have any advice on sizing, and on whether to it’s better to mirror the back design or make it the same as the front?

    • Hi Suzanne –

I think it runs small. I normally wear a 8-10 in skirts or a medium. My brother ordered this in a medium (since my husband snooped through my closet to find the right size, so that it would be a surprise, as it was a Christmas gift), and it probably would have been better as a large (and then you can always get it tailored to be smaller?).

My vote is mirrored so the sides would line up better, but that’s just me! Good luck! It’s just the best having a super unique skirt of your favorite place! Hope you love it!!
