June 2017 Budget

June month = best month in these parts.

Warm weather? Check. Fun activities (because of said warm weather)? Check. Birthday, birthday cake, and birthday presents? Check, check, and more check.

But all that fun and activities actually left me with very little time to shop this month! Normally, I go balls-to-the-wall on my birthday month budget, but this month was surprisingly restrained…

…Maybe I really am getting older?! Insert shocked/horror emoji here.

Check out June’s budget below to see the damage:

June 2017 Budget
+ J.Crew Factory Chambray Blazer (here)
+ Who What Wear for Target Black/White Floral Shirt Dress (here – with pockets!)
+ Who What Wear for Target Multi-colored Floral Shirt Dress (here – with pockets!)
+ Ellen and James Round Rattan Purse (here)
+ Merona Black Strap Sandals (here – also comes in cognac brown)

Bonus Items:
+ J.Crew Lemon Print Cardigan (here – used my J.Crew rewards on this!)

The five items budget is still going strong! Just a reminder, basic and thrifted items do not count towards the budget and accessories (that aren’t shoes or purses) also don’t count.

Let’s break it down, shall we?!

  1. This chambray blazer from J.Crew Factory is a great steal for the quality (if you happen to win at the J.Crew Factory pricing game…patience is unfortunately a virtue here). I scored this during their Memorial Day sale, and I do not regret it at all! I’m a layer-er at work, so this is perfect with all my skirts and dresses for office looks!
  2. This black/white floral print shirt dress from Who What Wear for Target is the first piece I have bought from this line at Target. The rest of the pieces are just too trendy for me or made of weird fabrics or poorly constructed. But this piece, this piece is a winner! And so is this print!
  3. The other floral print shirt dress from Who What Wear for Target! Ditto above. This one might be my favorite of the two prints, but don’t tell the other one!
  4. This beautiful handmade round rattan purse. Because I am the most basic blogger to have ever lived, and I don’t care at all! I love this little bag, but it comes with two little warnings. 1.) It smells like a campfire (which I don’t hate….but I also was a camp counselor forever). I’ve only had mine for 4 days, and I’ve read the reviews that the smell dissipates, but here is your warning. 2.) It is not crossbody length at all, which is a mini bummer for me, because I solely carry crossbody purses (minus the occasional tote or clutch).  I’m trying to think of a way around this, but no luck so far. Any ideas? (MOM?) After all that though, I would definitely recommend it for someone looking for an affordable circle/rattan/straw purse option, and the shipping was so so so fast!
  5. And lastly, this simple pair of black ankle strap sandals. Because they have great reviews and I was in need of a pair of simple black sandals…oh and a birthday gift card definitely was involved in these!

Things That Didn’t End Up Working
+ Mossimo Striped Dress – so beautiful on several other bloggers…and then a really weird awkward length on me. Pass.
Gap Striped Linen Shorts – Would be perfect pajama shorts, but not ideal for the style/look I was going for!

Next month I have no plans to really buy ANYTHING (crazy, right?). Summer weather is such a brief time period in Indiana that I don’t really need a whole lot of new things.

Or at least that’s what I will keep trying to tell myself! ;)  And I’m trying to save up some dollars for my favorite clothing season…fall!

May 2017 Budget

Quick pop quiz time…

Guess what’s up in this month’s budget? A.) Stripes, B.) Polka Dots, C.) Blue + white, or D.) All of the Above.

If you selected D.) All of the Above, you have successfully passed this month’s budget quiz. A+’s all around, I’m sure. ;)

May 2017 Budget
+ J.Crew Factory Navy/White Polka Dot Twinset (cardigan here and sweater shell here)
J.Crew Factory Multi-Colored Stripe Sweater (here)
+ J.Crew Factory Blue/White Stripe Skirt (here – with pockets!)
+ Loft Black/White Gingham Shorts (here)
+ J.Crew Factory White Clip-Dot Skirt (here – also with pockets!)

Bonus Items:
+ J.Crew Factory White Denim Jacket (here)
+ SugarFix by BaubleBar Black/White Drop Earrings (here)
Fossil Hybrid Q Watch (here – love it so far)
+ J.Crew Cap-Toe Ballet Flats (via Poshmark – similar)

The five items budget is still going strong! Just a reminder, basic and thrifted items do not count towards the budget and accessories (that aren’t shoes or purses) also don’t count.

Let’s break it down, shall we?!

  1. This twinset from J.Crew Factory is AH-MAZING (cardigan here and sweater shell here). It’s great quality for a “factory” piece, and I love how the patterns aren’t identical, but still go together (you know what I’m trying to say?). I wore the two pieces together to work last week and got a ton of compliments on it. The best part is you can wear them together with different bottom pieces or separately to create new looks! I can’t wait to wear these two again and again!
  2. This J.Crew Factory multi-colored sweater is the sweater I was looking for most of fall/winter, but it’s okay…because it is here now. And it is light enough to wear in the spring/fall on its own and layered up in the winter. Highly recommend this beauty!
  3. This blue/white striped J.Crew Factory skirt is a gem!  I almost sent it back, though, because I have so many striped skirts (okay, items in general), but then it was on super sale during the Memorial Day sales that I got a price adjustment…and it was only $25! And yes, it has pockets and will look equally great with graphic tees and sandals and button-downs and heels for work.
  4. These Loft gingham shorts. Ridiculously cute and perfect for summer. I am incredibly picky about shorts, and these beauties not only fit great, but they’ve got that oh so perfect pattern working for them. Done and done.
  5. And lastly, this pretty pretty pretty white skirt from J.Crew Factory! It’s hard to find a white skirt that isn’t insanely short and isn’t see through, but this one fits the bill. And yes, it has pockets! Swoon.

Things That Didn’t End Up Working
+ J.Crew Factory Sweater Tank – so bulky, so short, so…ick.
Soludos Giraffe Espadrilles – I don’t know why Soludos continue to look SO not right on me…maybe it is just my giant feet. Sigh.
J.Crew Straw Circle Bag – I SO wanted to love this bag, because I’ve wanted a circle straw/wicker bag alllll spring, but when your design team doesn’t consider the iPhone 7+ fitting into your purse…you know you need to rethink some things.

Next month is my favorite budget month…aka my birthday month where no budget rules apply, and I try to buy alllllll the things.

Which really might just mean waiting for all my Memorial Day orders to come in….because those sales were GOOD, and I did some damage. No specific needs/wants for next month, but I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes open! ;)

April Budget 2017

After last month’s imposter budget (tons of green, etc. – here if you missed it), I’m back to the traditional color palette of Style On Target. Good old red, navy, and neutrals!

Though every single item does come from the Crew (aka J.Crew and J.Crew Factory), so maybe I am still an imposter?! Target’s spring collection (minus the shoes) just isn’t really doing it for me this time around!

And after all of that stream of consciousness…this might be my favorite budget post ever. What can I say? I know what I like, and I like what I know!

Check out April’s budget below to see the damage:

April budget 2017 | Style On Target blog

April 2017 Budget
+ J.Crew Factory Red/White Stripe Skirt (here – also comes in navy/white)
J.Crew Navy Sailboat Tee (here)
+ J.Crew Navy Eyelet Shirt Dress (here – also comes in green and white)
+ J.Crew Factory Pom-Pom Flats (here)
+ J.Crew Gingham Print Skirt (here)

Bonus Items:
+ J.Crew Tortoise Shell Sunglasses (here)
+ Loft Glitter Reversible Necklace (here – so pretty)

And what a beauty this round-up will be! The five items budget is still going strong! Just a reminder, basic and thrifted items do not count towards the budget and accessories (that aren’t shoes or purses) also don’t count.

Let’s break it down, shall we?!

  1. I already have a navy/white striped skirt, so it was only fitting that I acquire a red/white option as well. This striped skirt (here) is from J.Crew Factory and is quite the item for being from the Factory brand! It has a lining and pockets (yes!), and just really feels like a substantial piece! Highly recommended…and I’ll be wearing it all spring and summer long!
  2. This J.Crew sailboat tee is the most perfect graphic tee ever. I ordered it because it had a million great reviews online and paired perfectly with my J.Crew gingham skirt (more on that piece later). And I kept because it is the most comfortable t-shirt ever. Pinky promise. It’s selling out fast, so if you’re a nautical fan like me…see if you can get your hands on it! It does run a smidge big, so you might be able to size down (I took my normal J.Crew size, but I hate too tight tees)!
  3. This navy J.Crew eyelet dress is a gem! Funny story about the purchase of this dress. The Husband and I walked to Chipotle one Saturday, and I was browsing the J.Crew sale items while he was ordering our food. I saw this brand new dress placed in the sale section….and was an extra 40% off! Whaaaaaaaat?! So it was originally $148, but marked down to $54 after the sale pricing. So yes, I ordered all three colors and kept the navy one. Sorry to whomever made that mistake at J.Crew, but I definitely benefitted! The dress again has pockets and a sewed-in lining, which is oh-so-genius. The green and white ones didn’t fit me as well as the navy, plus we all know how much homegirl loves her navy.
  4. These J.Crew Factory pom-pom flats. Ridiculously cute and unreasonably impractical? That’s my life motto! ;) Based on that, these shoes HAD to be mine. They’ll be fun for work with black pants and fun for dressing up a little black dress (or paired with a striped one!)
  5. And lastly, this pretty pretty pretty gingham skirt from J.Crew! Favorite piece of the whole month (and probably of the year), and I plan on wearing it ALL. THE. TIME. I mean, you’ve already seen it twice this month (here and here), so I can’t say enough good things about this one.

Picked up these sunglasses that I am obsessed with (classic tortoise shell with a gray twist) and this super pretty Loft necklace (here). Mine is actually the version before this one that had light glitter on one side and dark glitter on the other, but this one is equally pretty!

Things That Didn’t End Up Working
+ Completely forgot to track this this month…whoops!

As for next month, I’m still searching for a perfect white dress to wear this summer, and I may end up splurging on something during our Ireland trip (new fisherman sweater?!). And maybe this pair of espadrilles (here). But other than that, I’m hoping to see some better Target pieces and everyone else’s summer line!

March 2017 Budget

Patterns and prints? Tons of green? Nothing from Target?

What is this? A Style On Target imposter’s post? Nope, just a big change up from last month’s budget! Though don’t worry, there’s plenty of navy and classic patterns to talk about.

Check out March’s budget below to see the damage:

March budget 2017 | Style On Target blog

March 2017 Budget
+ J.Crew Black Sweater Blazer (here)
J.Crew Navy/Maroon Tweed Loafers (similar here)
+ Loft Navy Floral Fit and Flare Dress (here – pure perfection!)
+ J.Crew Green/Navy Geometric Print Skirt (here)
+ Loft Green Floral Print Shell Blouse (here)

Bonus Items:
+ Old Navy Chambray Dress (here – purchased with reward coupon)
+ J.Crew Navy/White Stripe Flats via Poshmark (super similar)
+ J.Crew Blue Locket Necklace (here)

Five items (kind of) five months in a row?! What what! This budget model is really working for me, and it’s getting easier and easier every month. Just a reminder, basic and thrifted items do not count towards the budget and accessories (that aren’t shoes or purses) also don’t count.

Let’s break it down, shall we?!

  1. Shocker of the century: I bought the only remaining color of the J.Crew sweater blazer (here). I couldn’t help myself. It was on super sale (finally). I knew it would sell out (it pretty much has). It’s a classic I have worn and will continue to wear forever. And the number one reason? Just so The Husband could continue to refer to it as a “sweazer”. Hilarious, folks.
  2. These navy/maroon tweed J.Crew loafers (same print in ballet flats here). Can you go to jail for stalking a pair of shoes? Asking for a friend. Because that’s exactly what I did with these beauties. And they were completely worth it! If you could wrap up my style in a shoe…it’s these!
  3. This Loft fit and flare dress is a dream! Perfect fit, perfect pattern, perfect color combo. Can’t beat it! Loft, please make more of your dresses in talls (like this one), so that I can continue to keep buying/wearing them!
  4. This J.Crew geometric print skirt. I have probably passed up this skirt 10 times, because the print is not my normal style and I don’t wear a ton of green. But then I saw someone wearing it on Pinterest and then someone wearing it Instagram…and realized how versatile it really was. So I ordered it, tried it on, and loved it!
  5. And lastly, this pretty pretty pretty floral blouse from Loft! Love the print and love the multiple ways to wear this piece!

Picked up three other pieces this month as well through rewards and Poshmark. Ready to get my spring on!

Things That Didn’t End Up Working
The striped trench from J.Crew that I kept raving about – It certainly was beautiful, but not different enough from the other two beige trenches that I already own, so I couldn’t justify keeping it (but would still encourage anyone else to buy it).
+ The Uniqlo polka dot blouse featured in last month’s 3 Ways to Wear – sadly the dots were tan, not white.
+ This colorful Loft stained glass print blouse – adorable and the prettiest print, but I can’t deal with shoulder ruffles. But maybe you can?
+ These Michael Kors flats – I have been really struggling for some comfy cognac flats, and these were way too matronly on me. Back they go.

April showers bring….a new budget for Katie! I’ve got my eye on a few pieces, but nothing that I have to have, so we’ll see what those showers (and dollars) end up bringing me! ;)

February 2017 Budget

Hello budget my old friend…I’ve come to talk ABOUT you once again…(such a great song, shame she had to ruin it in her silly blog post)!

But yes, I’m officially back from vacation and ready to confess all my awesome February purchases. And get ready, because there are some great ones (I mean…look at that solid color scheme)! And yes, I probably went overboard this month, but that’s because all the retailers are putting out new SPRING merchandise AND had great President’s Day sales…and who saw that coming? Not me!

Check out February’s budget below to see the damage:

february budget 2017 | Style On Target blog

February 2017 Budget
+ Merona Blue Suede Block Heel Sandals (here – other colors available)
Merona Tan/Beige D’Orsay Flats (here)
+ J.Crew Yellow Crossbody Purse (here – comes in so many colors that I need to stop myself from getting another!)
+ J.Crew Tan Regent Blazer (here)
+ J.Crew Navy/White Polka Dot Tee (here)

Bonus Items:
+ Merona Black D’Orsay Flats (here – bought with gift card)
+ J.Crew Navy Sweater Blazer via Poshmark (exact item, but in gray and black)
+ J.Crew Gold Star Sweater via Poshmark

Still going strong (mostly) with this “five piece” budget. I feel like this month was more a cheat than ever (my “thrifted” items still had the tags on them, but were still marked down considerably), but I’m still counting it as a success.  Just a reminder, thrifted items do not count towards the budget and accessories (that aren’t shoes or purses) also don’t count.

I’m also continuing the bullet point summaries of each item, because I think that is the best way to discuss these beauties!

  1. These beautiful baby blue suede block heels from Target were definitely similar to a pair that was mighty trendy last year, and fingers crossed it will be back again….because I have plenty of outfits pinned and now I can join in on the fun! This style comes in four other colors from Target.com, so snag them up while you still can (I love the red ones, also)!
  2. These Merona beige d’orsay flats were an impulse buy, as I actually went in for the black ones (here) as seen in this ‘Gram (here). But I couldn’t decide between the two, and that’s what leftover Christmas gift cards are for…right?
  3. This yellow J.Crew crossbody purse was brought to you by a super sale, a rewards cash coupon, and best friend enabling. I loved my red one so much from last month (and I’ve worn it nonstop), and I wear blue so much that I knew the yellow one would be well loved in my closet. And now no more purses…for quite some time.
  4. This J.Crew tan Regent blazer. I ordered this, because Fran wears and raves about hers all the time, and I certainly love the way it looks on her (and me). I had some credits and a great coupon code, but I didn’t/don’t really need another blazer (though this one looks way better than my old Target blazers). I was honestly thisclose to sending this bad boy back. But then The Husband came upstairs while I was trying it on and actually loved it…and he HATES blazers. So, since this was obviously end of the world territory, I kept it!
  5. And lastly, BUY this navy polka dot J.Crew tee! It’s true to size. It’s classic AND quirky. And if you like this blog, you know that navy is good for you. Enough said!

And because I was continually obsessing over my gray J.Crew sweater blazer (here) and constantly getting compliment after compliment (seriously, a flight attendant on our flight from Austin stopped me to tell me she loved it), I bought another one off a Poshmark seller…this time in navy (which they apparently offered only last year in the fall)! Major score there, along with the sold out Tippi sweater in gold stars (here). Constantly Poshmark/eBay searching does pay off!

Things That Didn’t End Up Working
+ Literally nothing, I tried some work pants on at J.Crew that I didn’t love,  but everything this month just happened to work out!

Annnnnd as for March? I’ve got my eye on these gold wedge sandals (because I have to add to my collection from last year….favorite sandals ever) for sure. I did order this polka dot blouse that I raved about in this 3 Ways to Wear post, but it hasn’t arrived yet so we’ll see if I end up keeping it. What I really need to do is another closet cleanout and make a good list of things I want to add this spring!
