February 2016 Budget

Minimal budget buys to report this month! February was a whirlwind of vacation travel, Super Bowl celebration, around the world in Epcot drinking, Valentine’s Day celebrations, and concert going! I guess that left very little time left for shopping!

Check out February’s budget below to see the damage:

+ Mossimo Supply Co. Navy Sneakers – $17 ($17 originally – here)

Total Spent: $147

Goal: $200
Amount Under/Over: +$53 = $200 – $147
Total Saved: $521 = $668 (if not on sale) – $147
Item Count: 8
Carryover to Next Month: $118 = $65 + $53

Stripes, red, navy, and fit-and-flare dresses? Yes, please! This month was filled of seven classic Katie pieces, which made me really happy when I was looking over all the items that I had purchased this month.

Second month this year with a vintage Coach purse purchase…and this month, I ended up with two of them (and I’d love to find a yellow crossbody one, to be honest)! I just can’t get enough of the amazing leather and quality of these vintage bags. Maybe it’s because I’ve always bought Target purses? But I love that you can get a gently used vintage bag for $30-40 on Poshmark, Etsy, or eBay…versus a new bag from Coach for $400 (this is the one that I’m dreaming of)! Also, I don’t think I’ve ever owned a white purse before, but they might be a game changer…so bright and fresh!

This is also the third or fourth month in a row of buying a Loft utility blouse! What can I say? I know what I like? They are perfect for work and weekend, and I can’t gt enough! The green floral beauty that I bought this month is still available here, and you can find some other options here or check yesterday’s post (here) for more great similar blouses!

Things That Didn’t End Up Working
+ This mixed stripe dress from Loft – On the model? Super cute. On me? Not so much.
This suede midi skirt from Target – gorgeous and really good quality, but I just can’t bite the bullet on the midi trend yet. Highly recommend this one though!
This pair of striped pants from Target – again, really cute and SUPER comfortable, but I didn’t think I was artsy/cool enough to wear them. Great for my fellow tall ladies though! They were the only pair of Target pants that has ever been long enough for me.

Things That I Ended Up Receiving
+ This month, I was fortunate to work with Uniqlo on a post where they provided merchandise to me. I think it is important to disclose this (especially since I got to pick it out on my own, so it was kind of like shopping!), so here are the items that I received.

March has historically been one of the bigger budget months here on Style On Target, so it is probably a good thing that I didn’t spend my whole budget this month. Especially since my besties, B and C, and I are headed to the outlet mall next weekend! I’m guaranteed to buy something there, and I love the spring collections that are slowing showing up online and in-store. Oh, and I’m almost guaranteed to buy this spring jacket in March.

Wallet, watch out!

January 2016 Budget

January is an evil month here in Indiana where you are forced to stay inside and watch football, drink copious amounts of coffee and tea, and do plenty of online shopping. Oh wait, those are ALL of my favorite things! So maybe, it’s not that bad afterall….

Check out January’s budget below to see the damage:

January budget 2016; Style On Target

January 2016 Budget
+ Old Navy Rust Swing Dress – $10 ($33 – sale price – 35% off sale – here)
+ Loft Navy Blue Sunglasses – $6 ($25 – sale price – extra 50% off sale items – here)
+ Loft Fanfare Utility Print Blouse – $20 ($60 – sale price – extra 50% off sale items – similar options here)
+ Merona Black Quilted Crossbody Purse – $30 ($30 – here)
+ Anne Klein Gold Crossbody Purse – $35 ($75 – Amazon’s random pricing – here)
+ Merona Tan Marled Turtleneck Sweater – $10 ($25 – 50% off sale price – 20% off clearance code – here)
+ Land’s End Leopard Print Heels – $40 ($109 – sale price – extra 20% off clearance – here)
+ Uniqlo Navy/White Polka Dot Cardigan – $10 ($30 – winter sale – here)

Not Pictured:
+ Coach Green Vintage Crossbody Purse – $20 ($150+ originally – via Poshmark – similar option here)

Total Spent: $181

Goal: $200
Amount Under/Over: +$19 = $200 – $181
Total Saved: $356! = $537 (if not on sale) – $181
Item Count: 9
Carryover to Next Month: $65 = $46 + $19

Yes, this means I bought another Loft utility blouse, which makes it three months in a row that I have bought one (see my November budget here and December budget here). What can I say….I love them and how versatile they are! And it pairs perfectly with my new navy sunglasses. Consider me guilty…I love me some navy (and some Loft sunglasses)!

I also LOVE dupes, and this black Merona quilted crossbody is the best Chanel dupe for less. It comes in white too (here), and I’m debating snagging up the white when it goes on sale for spring/summer! It’s the perfect size for me (wallet, sunglasses, mints, a few lipstick, and a bunch of random receipts…;)), and I definitely recommend it if you’re a fan of Target purses! I had already posted about lusting over the gold Kate Spade purse here, and then I stumbled upon this gold crossbody purse from Anne Klein. Super similar, but the Anne Klein can fit more, had more pockets, and was WAY more affordable…so it was an easy winner!

I actually wanted the gray version of the Old Navy swing dress, especially when I saw how great it looked on Jess (here), but it was sold out in the tall version by then. And Lord knows I need talls most of the time! So I ordered the orange/rust version and was surprised at how much I loved the color and how well I think it will work with the other colors in my closet!

And I looooove my new dark green vintage Coach purse (and really all my vintage Coach purses). You can find the best deals on them on Poshmark, eBay, and Etsy, and the vintage ones (if treated nicely) will last until the end of time. I’m happy to add this little green guy to the group!

Things That Didn’t End Up Working (apparently LOTS this month!)
+ This flannel blazer from Loft – I’m not sure if flannel and ponte are the same material…I don’t think they are, but this normally $118 blazer is definitely not worth the price, since it’s basically just a regular ponte/stretch blazer. I was definitely hoping for something more structured.
+ This Loft floral print dress – I really wanted to love this dress, and the print is soooo pretty and dainty in person, but the fit just wasn’t there for me in the dress.
This Limited polka dot skirt – If it had been a little bit shorter, it would have been a serious keeper, but alas, I’m still on the lookout for a perfect navy/white polka dot skirt!
+ This white crepe faux wrap blouse from Target – I love my black version of this blouse (here), but the white version is super see through, even with a cami, so back to my local store it goes!

Next month will probably be a moderate month for the budget, since we’re traveling and February is a shorter month. Which is good, because March, I start to go stir crazy and want to buy ALL THE SPRING THINGS.

December 2015 Budget

Hello, four days until 2016! How the heck did we get here?

If you remember, I had an abbreviated budget this month, so this post is a little bit more condensed than you’re probably used to, but I’ve still got some fun stuff to share!

Check out December’s budget below to see the damage:

december 2015 budget

December 2015 Budget

+ BaubleBar “K” Charm, Horseshoe Charm, and Tassel Charm – $25 ($14 + $10 + $12 – promo code – here)
+ Xhilaration Black Sequin Skirt – $17 ($25 originally – 30% off online sale – here)

Total Spent: $97

Goal: $100 (1/2 budget month!)
Amount Under/Over: +$3 = $100 – $97

Item Count: 4
Carryover to Next Month: $46 = $43 + $3

*Means it was marked off my 2015 Wishlist (see that post here)

I actually had no trouble sticking to half a budget this month, probably because I have too much stuff anyways, but I was also too busy to shop with all the holiday events! And apparently, buying presents for others and battling the holiday crowds is enough shopping for me in December!

The Charter Club cashmere sweater is too good to pass up (I already have it in a hunter green color too…it’s amazing), and I’m in LOVE with my charm necklace. I had a charm bracelet growing up, but I just don’t wear bracelets much anymore, since I’m on the computer ALL day long and they just seem to get in the way. But this necklace is the perfect way to enjoy the charms!

I did receive some clothing/accessory-related items for Christmas and did do some Black Friday shopping (mentioned in last month’s budget post), so you’ll be seeing those items around here too!

Things That Didn’t End Up Working
+ This reindeer fair isle sweater from Loft – This sweater is super duper cute, fits perfectly, and I loved the mix of fair isle and polka dots. But since a girl only needs one reindeer fair isle sweater, and I already have one (see it here), I figured I didn’t need another one!

Things That I Ended Up Receiving
+ The NFLShop.com let me pick out an item to style for my post with them, so I was thrilled to pick out this golden logo Colts tee! Go Colts go!
+This month, I was also lucky enough to work with Express on a post where they provided merchandise to me. I think it is important to disclose this (especially since I got to pick it out on my own, so it was kind of like shopping!), so here are the four items that I received.

Next month’s budget will obviously be the first of the new year! I’ll be back to my normal budget amount, but I’m still working to wear and remix everything that I have now!

I’m really pleased of how my style developed in 2015, and I’m hoping to continue to fine tune it in 2016. Instead of doing my yearly wishlists, I think I have decided to change those to seasonal to help keep them fresh and have an active “shopping list” in my head, so you’ll see the first of those next month! Be sure to let me know if you like them or not!

November 2015 Budget

That’s right. I’m here posting November’s budget before Black Friday and giving myself free reign over whatever I buy during Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Cyber Monday, because I love fall, sales, and I’m planning on going a half budget/spending free in December.

Blasphemy, right?

So let’s check out what I bought in the first 25 days of November, and ignore the last 5 days of the month, shall we?

Check out November’s budget below to see the damage:

*Means it was marked off my 2015 Wishlist (see that post here)

Hitting the budget dollar amount right on the head?! Booooooyaaaaahhh!

This was actually a pretty big month of clothing failures. It seemed like everything that I ordered was just not a cute on, as it look online. Maybe I’m just getting more particular about what I add to my closet? That would be nice!

It was also fun to get back into “thrifting” via eBay and Poshmark this month. I had originally wanted these J.Crew Factory horse loafers last year and when I saw them online in my size, I knew it was a sign! The tortoise shell chain link necklace was something I saw on another blogger and wanted a copy of it for my own outfit styling…Poshmark to the rescue! Sometimes it’s fun to just type in something you want (red crossbody purse, for example) and see what pops up!

It should also be noted that I did add in some jeans (3 pairs to be exact – these from Loft) that you’ve seen all over this blog. I did not include these in the budget, because I really needed some new jeans (you know, ones that fit properly…the struggle is real), and I’m thrilled with the ones that I scored from Loft during one of their crazy 50% off everything sales! I’m even thinking of picking up a backup dark rinse pair during Black Friday. Definitely recommend them for a try on!

Things That Didn’t End Up Working
+ This oversized marled turtleneck sweater from Old Navy – just not cute at alllllll on me!
+ This perfect striped sweater from Old Navy – if this came in a small tall, it would be MINE, but unfortunately it does not and my torso is apparently too long! Loved it though!
+ This pleated faux leather skirt (in burgundy) from Target – you all know I love Target to death, but this was honestly one of the worst faux leather skirts I have ever seen. Cheap, cheap cheap looking! :(
+ This gray turtleneck from Target – too thin to make it through a Midwest winter, even though the price was good (I got it for $12 during a sweater sale!)
+ This gingham print scarf from Uniqlo – I really wanted to love it and I kind of did, but I think the size was just too large to deal with.

Like I mentioned above, I’m going to tap the brakes on my spending after Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Cyber Monday is over and done with. My December budget post should be small/minimal ($100 or under), as I need to wear all the sweaters and other items I’ve purchased in the last month!

October 2015 Budget

This month flew by (that’s what happens you’re battling 20 different time zones), and I honestly can’t believe that there are only two months left in 2015! Holy cats, where does the time go? I’m surprised I even found time to shop/spend my budget dollars, but don’t worry…I did! ;)

*Means it was marked off my 2015 Wishlist (see that post here)

October must have been month-of-buy-all-the-sweaters-ever, because that’s exactly what I did! I’ll blame it on the fact that Target had some great sweater sales this month, and I always just really love their sweater styles. A couple people have asked my review of them, and it basically boils down to this: they don’t hold up for years and years (maybe like 3-4), and they’re usually not super thick, but they get the job done and they’re great for layering (plus, you don’t have to worry too much if you spill chili or coffee on them…not that that’s happen to anyone here). I am looking to invest in some “better” sweaters this year, but you can’t beat a Target sweater deal!

If it wasn’t a sweater this month, it was really just a staple building piece: nude wedge pumps, colored utility pants,  a black flare skirt, and a gray v-neck tee. All things that I have been looking to add/replace in my closet, and I’m glad to have found so many that will work so well! Minus that, I also added some fun pieces to my wardrobe: a maroon purse (so pretty) and a buffalo print blanket scarf…just plain fun and cozy!

I also didn’t count this in my budget, but I bought this navy sweater from L.L.Bean instead of a cable knit sweater from Ireland that was suppose to be my souvenir. This one looked better than the dozens that I tried on in Ireland and was cheaper too, so win? I also wore my black Merona ballets flats all over Europe and ended up wearing a hole in them (#travelhazards), so I replaced them with these new black Merona ballets flats, and I love them already!

Things That Didn’t End Up Working
+ These black/white print loafer flats from Target – I thought that these were more brown than black, and they were just thin with no support in general.
+ The spacedye mixed media top from Loft – a couple other bloggers mentioned that they loved this top, so I ordered it as part of my flash sale order from Loft. The front looked great, and then I looked at the back in the mirror. I thought I paid for a full shirt, not 1/2 of one. Yes, I could have checked the website for a photo of the back, but I didn’t…so back to Loft it went.

I’m thinking of doing a half budget or spending freeze in December, so November will probably include more colder weather items, as fall is my favorite time to buy clothes, so I’ll try to be getting it all out of my system in November…plus Black Friday/Cyber Monday are always great great GREAT times to get the most out of my budget.
