November 2015 Budget

That’s right. I’m here posting November’s budget before Black Friday and giving myself free reign over whatever I buy during Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Cyber Monday, because I love fall, sales, and I’m planning on going a half budget/spending free in December.

Blasphemy, right?

So let’s check out what I bought in the first 25 days of November, and ignore the last 5 days of the month, shall we?

Check out November’s budget below to see the damage:

Hitting the budget dollar amount right on the head?! Booooooyaaaaahhh!

This was actually a pretty big month of clothing failures. It seemed like everything that I ordered was just not a cute on, as it look online. Maybe I’m just getting more particular about what I add to my closet? That would be nice!

It was also fun to get back into “thrifting” via eBay and Poshmark this month. I had originally wanted these J.Crew Factory horse loafers last year and when I saw them online in my size, I knew it was a sign! The tortoise shell chain link necklace was something I saw on another blogger and wanted a copy of it for my own outfit styling…Poshmark to the rescue! Sometimes it’s fun to just type in something you want (red crossbody purse, for example) and see what pops up!

It should also be noted that I did add in some jeans (3 pairs to be exact – these from Loft) that you’ve seen all over this blog. I did not include these in the budget, because I really needed some new jeans (you know, ones that fit properly…the struggle is real), and I’m thrilled with the ones that I scored from Loft during one of their crazy 50% off everything sales! I’m even thinking of picking up a backup dark rinse pair during Black Friday. Definitely recommend them for a try on!

Things That Didn’t End Up Working
+ This oversized marled turtleneck sweater from Old Navy – just not cute at alllllll on me!
+ This perfect striped sweater from Old Navy – if this came in a small tall, it would be MINE, but unfortunately it does not and my torso is apparently too long! Loved it though!
+ This pleated faux leather skirt (in burgundy) from Target – you all know I love Target to death, but this was honestly one of the worst faux leather skirts I have ever seen. Cheap, cheap cheap looking! :(
+ This gray turtleneck from Target – too thin to make it through a Midwest winter, even though the price was good (I got it for $12 during a sweater sale!)
+ This gingham print scarf from Uniqlo – I really wanted to love it and I kind of did, but I think the size was just too large to deal with.

Like I mentioned above, I’m going to tap the brakes on my spending after Thanksgiving/Black Friday/Cyber Monday is over and done with. My December budget post should be small/minimal ($100 or under), as I need to wear all the sweaters and other items I’ve purchased in the last month!

October 2015 Budget

This month flew by (that’s what happens you’re battling 20 different time zones), and I honestly can’t believe that there are only two months left in 2015! Holy cats, where does the time go? I’m surprised I even found time to shop/spend my budget dollars, but don’t worry…I did! ;)

October must have been month-of-buy-all-the-sweaters-ever, because that’s exactly what I did! I’ll blame it on the fact that Target had some great sweater sales this month, and I always just really love their sweater styles. A couple people have asked my review of them, and it basically boils down to this: they don’t hold up for years and years (maybe like 3-4), and they’re usually not super thick, but they get the job done and they’re great for layering (plus, you don’t have to worry too much if you spill chili or coffee on them…not that that’s happen to anyone here). I am looking to invest in some “better” sweaters this year, but you can’t beat a Target sweater deal!

If it wasn’t a sweater this month, it was really just a staple building piece: nude wedge pumps, colored utility pants,  a black flare skirt, and a gray v-neck tee. All things that I have been looking to add/replace in my closet, and I’m glad to have found so many that will work so well! Minus that, I also added some fun pieces to my wardrobe: a maroon purse (so pretty) and a buffalo print blanket scarf…just plain fun and cozy!

I also didn’t count this in my budget, but I bought this navy sweater from L.L.Bean instead of a cable knit sweater from Ireland that was suppose to be my souvenir. This one looked better than the dozens that I tried on in Ireland and was cheaper too, so win? I also wore my black Merona ballets flats all over Europe and ended up wearing a hole in them (#travelhazards), so I replaced them with these new black Merona ballets flats, and I love them already!

Things That Didn’t End Up Working
+ These black/white print loafer flats from Target – I thought that these were more brown than black, and they were just thin with no support in general.
+ The spacedye mixed media top from Loft – a couple other bloggers mentioned that they loved this top, so I ordered it as part of my flash sale order from Loft. The front looked great, and then I looked at the back in the mirror. I thought I paid for a full shirt, not 1/2 of one. Yes, I could have checked the website for a photo of the back, but I didn’t…so back to Loft it went.

I’m thinking of doing a half budget or spending freeze in December, so November will probably include more colder weather items, as fall is my favorite time to buy clothes, so I’ll try to be getting it all out of my system in November…plus Black Friday/Cyber Monday are always great great GREAT times to get the most out of my budget.

September 2015 Budget

September’s one of my favorite months to shop, because the clothing is strictly fall and the colors that are out are almost all jewel tones, which are my favorite. It is also very easy for me to make the most out of my budget in September thanks to all the Labor Day sales!

You guys! How did I actually end up hitting my budget EXACTLY? That’s impressive…so impressive that I should get to win the Showcase prize or something! ;)

Like I mentioned above, September is one of my favorite times to shop, and I’m head over heels for all of the fall collections that are in stores right now, but especially Target’s! I wasn’t wowed with Target’s summer and pre-fall collections and was actually starting to wonder if I was going to be able to keep up the one-item-from-Target-per-day outfit posts, because I just wasn’t loving anything Target. That all changed when I saw their fall collection and wanted EVERYTHING. I kept it to five items for now (and a dress I bought to wear to some weddings that I didn’t include in my budget since I desperately needed it), but expect this girl to do some more damage in the next coming months.

The sweater I purchased from Talbots was 1/4 of my budget, which is normally too much for me to spend on a top, but it was MADE for me! Peter pan collar. Blue and white. Stripes. Not to mention that it very good quality, and I can’t wait for the temperatures to cool down so that I can wear it!

I outgrew my navy flare skirt, and the navy flare skirt was too affordable to pass up. Expect to see lots and lots and lots of outfits with it. It comes in three other colors, so I might just have to pick up another one!

Things That Didn’t End Up Working
+ This gray t-shirt dress from Loft – super thin material and nearly see through! Not cool, Loft.
+ And these high-lo sweaters from Loft – just a bit too boxy on me, but maybe could work if you’re shorter than me, because the colors are great!?
+ This gray plaid blazer from Target – just not a good color combination for me, but super fall-like and almost J.Crew style for way way less!

I’m going to be traveling for the first part of October, but I’m hoping to pick up some more fall staples later in the month. Stay tuned this week for my Fall Wishlist to see what might be coming in the next couple of months!

August 2015 Budget

August is such a weird month. It’s blazing hot outside, but all I want it to be is 55 degrees and sunny. The summer tanks and shorts are still on the shelves and racks, but all I want is for them to be shoved aside for fall blazers and jeans. So I tried to compromise this month and pick some pieces that can do double duty.

Check out August’s budget below to see the damage:

+ Old Navy Plaid Buttondown – $15 ($25 originally – 40% off – here and perfect for fall!)

Total Spent: $194

Goal: $200
Amount Under/Over: +$6 = $200 – $194
Total Saved: $198 = $392 (if not on sale) – $194
Item Count: 13
Carryover to Next Month: $31 = $6 + $25 (from Loft shirt and bright blue Merona loafers that I did not keep from July’s budget)**

*Means it was marked off my 2015 Wishlist (see that post here) – nothing this month, but I’ve fulfilled 16 items to date!

I’m really into everything I purchased this month and more surprisingly (to myself), I’m under budget…technically*. I think it’s because I placed a ton of different orders this month, but out of every order I placed, I only kept one or two things.

Things That Didn’t End Up Working
+ Any other pair of Pixie pants from Old Navy (here) – apparently only the polka dotted pair works on these legs!
+ And these stripe fit and flare dresses from Old Navy – just an extremely weird fit on me (and my bestie B who also tried them on in stores). Not good.
+ These adorable printed buttondowns from Boden – I think I just need to order the next size up next time.
+ This plaid dress and this shirtdress from Loft’s 40% off sale – the plaid one was too short (ugh) and the blue one was a bit too frumpy for me.

But that’s okay, because they might work out for you! Ahhh, the beauty of style…something for everyone!

Next month, I’m planning on doing a fall wishlist, but to preview that, I’m planning on adding a sweater or two to my growing stacks, and maybe a new red plaid buttondown (because the navy plaid one above is not enough!). I’d also really like to find a new pair of sangria ankle boots, because let’s face it, I can’t stop wearing ankle boots from fall to spring! ;) What are you looking to add next month (now that fall is almost on our doorstep)!?

How did you do this month on your budget? I’m linking up with Franish’s Budgeting Bloggers, and you should too!

*I also bought my cobalt blue Michael Kors purse (here – obsessed with it’s beauty and it’s ability to mix with a ton of colors) and the infamous J.Crew Factory herringbone vest (here) but didn’t include either one of them in my final budget breakdown for various reasons (#1 because I’m a budget cheater ;)).

**I am going to drop my “carryover” amount to my savings this month (I had $186 in there last month) for next month’s post, so we’ll call it even (see…I’m kind of honorable ;)).

July 2015 Budget

July always seems like a long month to me, and this one was decently long and filled with fun trips and weekend adventures, which means that my spending should have been limited, but I happened to be right on track thanks to some great sales (here’s looking at you Loft and Old Navy)!

Check out July’s budget below to see the damage:

julybudget

+ Merona Blue Suede Driving Loafers – $12 ($24.99 originally  – 50% off online sale – here)

Total Spent: $196

Goal: $200
Amount Under/Over: +$4 = $200 – $196
Total Saved: $269 = $465 (if not on sale) – $196
Item Count: 10
Carryover to Next Month: $186 = $182 + $4

*Means it was marked off my 2015 Wishlist (see that post here)

Not too bad, especially since I made smart, smart, SMART decisions to gamble and wait on multiple items from Loft and Ann Taylor to see if they would make their way to a 50% off sale or even better, one of their ridiculous flash sales! Lots of them did, so that’s why I saved more than I even spent this month.

And can we just talk about how Loft and Old Navy’s fall collections are going to be the death of me? Almost everything I have seen so far released is something I definitely want (not need…apparently those are different? ;)), so be ready to see those two heavily represented in the coming months. My favorite purchase this month is probably that Old Navy multicolored stripe scarf…all my favorite colors in one scarf (plus stripes?)…twist my arm, would ya?

I’m still feeling really good about my budget and my closet situation. Fran recently posted about her closet inventory (here), and she’s inspired me to do another closet cleanout in the next couple of months. I’m not sure whether or not I’ll take inventory numbers, but it would be nice to clear out some space and get a Fall/Winter wishlist going.
