March 2014 Budget

Oh budgeting. I probably should have never started this, even though I love this post and the reflection of what I bought. I’m just not under budget this month…let’s just say that right now. Luckily, I had a little reserve from the past months to cover my extra spending.

Check out March’s budget below to see the damage (split into retail stores and thrifted goods breakdown again).

Thoughts on my purchases this month: I definitely bought too much (hello over budget for the first time), but did end up getting some staple pieces (tote, snakeskin pumps, green army pants) along with some fun pieces (can anyone say hot air balloon blouse?). I also loved pieces from the Loft, which were more expensive then my regular Target items (though I always wait for a 40% off sale there). I’m super happy with the items I purchased, and I’m doubting that I will be spending that much in April due to the wedding/honeymoon (though a few of the items here will be worn during the honeymoon and were specifically purchased for that trip). But who knows what will happen in the early weeks of April?!

February 2014 Budget

So somebody was entranced this month by more good deals and the thought of spring (along with the launch of most stores’ spring collections). I’m proud to say that I stayed under budget, but JUST barely. Again, I’ve worn most of these items already and some of them were checks off my 2014 Wishlist, so that’s awesome too.

Check out February’s budget below to see the damage (split into retail stores and thrifted goods breakdown again).

*I did not include the stripe wedges (here) or the infamous Target bike sweatshirt (here) since those were gifts/wedding expenses. That’s right, I totally convinced The Fiance that stripe wedges were worthy of a wedding expense. Score one for me.

Thoughts on my purchases this month: I did get rid of roughly 20 items this month, so I’m keeping steady with my closet and finding pieces that I actually wear and will work with my lifestyle. I’m also pleased with the mixture of fun and classics that I got this month (definitely not as gloomy as in January and December). In March, I’m looking to not buy as much and am looking for some pieces to take with me for my honeymoon. Wish me luck on both fronts!

January 2014 Budget

Too many good deals this month, guys, and too many Christmas gift cards burning a hole in my pocket. I still managed to stay under budget (with some help from Christmas money from my grandparents), and I have almost worn all of this stuff already, so at least I am excited about that.

Having a style blog is helping me define my look and get creative with my wardrobe, but it also makes me want to continue to add and add to my already bursting closet. I am hoping to get that under control in the next 11 months of this year, but right now, Target’s 70% off sales (and every other store’s) are too good. I mean two $5 sweaters? Check out January’s budget below to see the damage (split into retail stores and thrifted goods breakdown this time).

Item Count: 22

Carryover: n/a (I will have $53.50 bonus for February at least?)

So, yes. Technically, I am over my “set budget”, but I am spending Christmas money on my wardrobe, so I actually came in under that amount. That is completely fine with me. I’m obviously really “strict” about my budget. :)

Definitely a lot of darker shades and bottoms this month! Tons of items, which is also what I said last month. I’m worried, because I am loving all the new spring clothing coming out and might continue to buy buy buy. Hopefully, I can start minimizing the amount that I am buying, otherwise, I might need a new closet!

2014 Wishlist

I’m on a mission this year, guys!

To stick to a budget. To make responsible purchases. To buy some classic/long-lasting items. To make smart decisions. And to build a quality wardrobe.

Above, you can find some key items that I am looking to buy this year. Yes, I will likely end up not buying some of these and instead, purchasing some ridiculous cute animal sweaters. But I’m only 26, so that’s okay? Right? I’ll be updating this list as I find the items (whether or not they are from Target), and you’ll be able to find an updated page on the website dedicated to my 2014 Wishlist. Maybe I’ll do an end-of-the-year post on it in December 2014? That seems forever away, even though 2013 flew by!

Without further adieu, here are the 27 items on my 2014 Wishlist…tell me what’s on yours in the comments!

Creating a Budget + December 2013 Budget

It is about time. I decided after my no shopping ban in December (that worked out sooo well – just kidding – I cheated so many times) that I would go ahead and start setting a budget for my clothing/shoes/accessories purchases. I decided on an amount of $250 per month (not including gifts or gift cards). This is based on a whole bunch of various factors but is a good number for my personal and professional life.

December was my test month to get the budget ready for the new year (2014!…how are you here already?), and I think it is really going to work, and the nerd in me loves tracking the spending/savings and listing out each and every purchase. IT is almost exciting, guys (almost). Obviously, you’ll see some of these purchases through Target Haul posts, but some of the items will be from other stores that I shop at. I love reading these posts and was inspired to do this thanks to Fran from Franish and her Budgeting Bloggers. So hopefully, you’ll enjoy hearing about what I am adding to my wardrobe each month starting with the below post for December 2013.

December 2013 Budget

+ White Boyfriend Sweater; Old Navy – $14 ($27 – ~50% off – here)
+ Black Turtleneck Sweater; Target – $11 ($15 – 25% off – here)
+ Red/Blue Geo Sweater; Target – $12.50 ($25 – 50% off – here)
+ Black Oxford Blazer; Target – $25 ($35 – 30% off – here)
+ Striped Tee; Target – $8 ($12 – 33% off – here)

+ Mossimo Kodi Ankle Boots – Black; Target – $25 ($35 – 30% off – here)
+ Merona Premium Opaque Tights – Dark Red; Target – $10 (regular price – here)
+ Mossimo Fit and Flare Dress; Target $17.50 ($25 – 30% off – here) -> ordered online and haven’t received this yet, but I think I am going to like it, so including it here
+ Houndstooth Oxford Blazer; Target – $14.50 ($35 – $10.50 (30% off at my local store) – $10 giftcard – here)
+ Merona Burgundy/Navy Striped Tee; Target – $7 ($12 – on sale in stores – here)
+ Striped Silk Scarf; Ann Taylor – $8 (thrifted)

Goal: $250
Total Spent: $204
Amount Under/Over: +$46 = $250-$204
Carryover: $ –
Total Saved: $125 = $329 (if not on sale) – $204
Item Count: 14

Lots and lots of items, I feel like. It is pretty clear what I like upon viewing this post: classic, clean looks and lots of black, white, navy, and dark red. In all, not bad for the first budgeting month, plus I already wore 3 items from this list on Monday. Now onto January’s money!
