Winter Wishlist 2017

Ahh winter. I don’t want you…at all…but apparently, your official arrival is today and my distaste of you doesn’t stop you from sleeting and snowing all over my car.

So, since we have to put up with all that nonsense, I’m trying to put a positive spin on this by focusing on all the things I love about winter.

Cozy layers, sitting in front of the fireplace, setting up Christmas decorations, and stacks of sweaters.

So now that we’re all feeling better about winter, let’s dive into my winter wishlist (you know, besides days that are no colder than 50 degrees).

Top Twelve Things On My Winter Wishlist for 2016/2017:

  1. Black Watch Plaid Shirt – Can’t get enough of this pattern, and it’s perfectly acceptable to have one of everything in this plaid. That’s basically what J.Crew said this year.
  2. Tan Knit Gloves – I LOVE THESE GLOVES  (and so do many, many others…check out the reviews). I have them in black, and I thought I lost them between last winter and now, but I luckily I found them. So naturally, I need another pair and this tan will go great with my camel coat (oh and everything else…#neutral).
  3. Gray Turtleneck – I was going through my Pinterest boards the other day, and one of the items that kept coming up time and time again in many of my favorite pins was a gray turtleneck sweater. Simple piece, but a great building block for a winter wardrobe.
  4. Black Fur Earmuffs – Because if you’re having a good hair day, then you don’t want to ruin it with a hat, right?
  5. Red Puffer Vest – Even I’m embarrassed to type this, but I don’t think I need another one of these, but I love love love the red (and this black watch plaid option). What can I say…I’m am addicted to puffer vests.
  6. Black Chelsea Ankle Boots – I’ve been wearing my cognac brown ankle boots from last year over and over, so it might be nice to add a black pair into the rotation.
  7. Plaid Coat – Okay, so I already own this one, but it was the number one on my winter wishlist, so I had to include it. Other plaid options I’m loving include this one (love the red!) and this one!
  8. Houndstooth Skirt – A great staple for wearing now with tights and later without! Can you imagine the remixing potential?!
  9. Maroon Plaid Scarf – Just another way to layer up on those super chilly days.
  10. Tan Cashmere Crew Sweater – The one I linked to is a great option, but my favorite cashmere sweater will always be this option from Macy’s (especially when it goes on super sale). Tan is a great staple, but if you are looking for other colors…they have a ton of options!
  11. Burgundy Ankle Boots – Because when you already have ankle boots in black, tan, navy, and green…your next step is burgundy!
  12. Little Red Crossbody Purse – I love a good pop of color, and it is never more important than in the dreary winter. This little crossbody features both red and blue (my favorites) and has excellent reviews online! WANT.

What are you putting on your winterwishlist? Did I miss anything? Snow shovel? Ice pick?! ;)

5 Ways to Achieve European Style

I’ve been meaning to write this post since getting back from Europe, and I’m just now getting around to it. But it is finally here! Better late than never, right?

Our European trips are always good for the soul, but this one was particularly good for the sartorial soul…aka my closet. I was so inspired by all the outfits that I was seeing out and about that I actually took notes…and I haven’t done that since college!

Some of the notes were about outfit combos that I wanted to try and recreate or pieces that I thought I might want to add to my wardrobe (hello black tote purse), but some of them I thought would be universal and easily shareable…so here we are with the 5 things I learned about style from my European travels.

1. Trench coats instantly make everything look more chic.

trench coat + cream cable sweater + Loft jeans + Target navy ballet flats | Style On Target blog
Jeans and t-shirt? Yup. Button down blouse and work pants? Check. Black sweater and skirt? You bet.

When in doubt, the golden rule of European style is to throw on a trench coat. It’s been around for over 100 years, so you know it’s good. Bonus points if it beige/tan since it goes with both black and navy or maybe try it in an unexpected color/pattern to mix things up a bit!

2. Muted colors are more manageable…and they don’t have to be boring.

black and white stripe tee + black hat + cord tan button skirt + black ankle boots Target; casual fall outfit | Style On Target blog

Neutrals and earth tones are NOT boring. Repeat after me. Europeans only wear them…so if you want to look like a European, it might be time to check your closet palette.

A closet full of random pops of color like highlighter yellow, green apple green, and bubblegum pink also isn’t going to take you very far in terms of mixing and matching and figuring out what to wear on a daily basis.

Buuuuuut a closet full of neutrals and muted colors (like red, navy, and forest green) will take you much farther and transcend a whole bunch of trends too. Check out this color palette of items below…can’t you imagine a Londoner wearing these colors?

3. But on that note, accessorize, accessorize, accessorize.

accessorize, accessorize, accessorize

This is where things get fun. Feel free to inject colors and patterns that you yourself LOVE! I’m a firm believer that accessories are a great way to express your personality.

You love polka dots? Add a polka dot neck scarf to your wishlist (see below).

More of a fan of leopard print? Try a cute pair of leopard print flats or heels (love these).

Love cats and want the world to know it? Get a cute cat shape purse (no seriously…it’s here!).

Whatever you like, add small doses of it with accessories and you can express your love and still look stylish.

4. Classics are clutch.

Not sure what to wear? You know you always fall back on your favorite classic pieces.

Maybe it is your white button down shirt or your favorite jeans or that black crew sweater you can’t live without. For me, it’s always going to be a stripe tee. Always!

Europeans know a great classic when they see, so take a page out of their book and stock up on some great classics. They’re have your back when you’re running late for work…for…you know…the third time this week!

5. And comfort is key.

old navy city tee + denim jacket + red Loft skirt + stripe espadrilles | Style On Target blog

For the most part, Europeans rely on public transportation and lots of walking to get them from work to the pub to home to the grocery store and back again. And you certainly don’t want to be doing that in a pair of stilettos, so grab your favorite flats or chelsea ankle boots (first option in the lineup below – they’re EVERYWHERE in Europe) and hit the streets.

Because we have lots of sites to see and things to do (like eat lots and lots of fancy cheeses)!

And that’s it in terms of my top 5 tricks to obtain European style! Do you have any that you live by? Let me know in the comments!

And then let’s book a plane ticket…this post has renewed my wanderlust!
