3 Jackets You Need This Spring

The joke about Indiana weather goes like this…if you don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes. Because it’s bound to change.

As a girl who has lived in Indiana for 25-ish years and who knows a thing or two about jacket weather (and parka weather and no-jacket weather and everything in between), let me tell you about the three jackets that you need this spring.

Because if it’s too warm for one of them…then it’s cold enough for another! ;)

1. THE FIELD/UTILITY JACKET

merona utility jacket + black and white stripe tee + loft jeans + vintage coach purse | Style On Target blogblue and white stripe tee + green utility jacket + loft jeans + beige scallop flats; casual fall outfit | Style On Target bloggreen utility jacket + black dress + scallop flats + cognac coach crossbody purse; casual fall outfit | Style On Target

This is the piece you need, but don’t think that you need. Sure, everyone has a denim jacket and a trench coat on their “must have items list,” but the utility jacket is every bit as classic…and even more functional! Want to know why?

POCKETS!

Seriously, guys. I can’t even explain how much use I have gotten out of utility jackets and their pockets, especially when traveling!

They also add a lot of texture and interest to an otherwise basic outfit. Take away the utility jacket in the outfits above, and I’m essentially wearing a striped tee and jeans or a basic black dress. Kinda of boring, but not with an added layer and dash of army green!

Utility jacket for the double win!

2. THE TRENCH COAT

Because Europeans are never wrong about three things: cheese, wine, and trench coats. My favorite being cheese, but since today’s post is all about jackets…I better stay on topic!

This is the ideal spring weather jacket…especially when it’s real spring! Aka when it’s too crisp in the morning that you still need an extra layer to get you from Point A to Point B! I clearly favor pairing my trenches with blue (see all the example photos above), but the beauty of a classic beige trench is that it goes with EVERYTHING!

Seeeeeeee….those Europeans really do know what they’re talking about!

3. THE DENIM JACKET

black tee + black grid print pants Old Navy + denim jacket + yellow purse + superga sneakers | Style On Target blogold navy city tee + denim jacket + red Loft skirt + stripe espadrilles | Style On Target bloggrid print black and white dress + jean jacket + black coach purse; casual fall outfit | Style On Target blog

Ahhhh the denim jacket.

I can’t pick a favorite from this group of three. But if I ABSOLUTELY had to…it would be this denim jacket. Specifically this one from Target (which I got last season – but this one is super duper similar and also from Target).

Because like a good pair of jeans, a perfect denim jacket can take you everywhere. I wear mine constantly from spring to fall and barely take a break from it (just long enough to wash it). It’s perfect with dresses, skirts, and patterned pants. I’ve also seen people wear it with other denim items, but I’m not brave/cool enough to do that….yet.

And that’s your top three…now you just have to check the weather forecast to see which one best fits your city. I’ll be wearing all three (probably all at once), knowing the weather here in Indiana! ;)

What I Wish I Wore, Vol. 176 – Print Mixing for Dummies

What I Wish I Wore, Vol. 176 - Print Mixing for Dummies | Style On Target blog

Print mixing for dummies is today’s lesson…not that you’re a dummy (you are most definitely NOT), but I’ll be making it really easy today. Or more accurately, this skirt will make it really easy.

Take one set of stripes and pair it with the prettiest floral print skirt EVER (red, white, and blue forever, folks). Make sure they have like colors (here they both have white and navy).

Add in a classic denim jacket to ground the “craziness” of print mixing (you say crazy, Mom…I say fun) and keep the rest of your look in the same color palette as your patterned pieces. Easy peasy, lemon-squeezy.

Ten Things I’ve Loved This Past Week on The Internet:

  1. I can almost guarantee that these beautiful Gap printed espadrilles will sell out…because they’re affordable and gorgeous!
  2. Blogger love of the week: Jessica from Here & Now is back to blogging, and I’m so happy she’s back. Love this double stripe combo look, because the only thing better than stripes…is more stripes!
  3. These baby blue suede loafers are the prettiest things ever (and yes, Elvis probably sung that song about them).
  4. Victoria Beckham’s collection is coming to Target in April (April 9 to be exact), and the lookbook (here) was released last week! I’m actually pretty meh about the collection in general, though of course, I loved this bee print shirt, because I’m a sucker for an graphic animal print. What are your thoughts on the styles? Let me know in the comments!
  5. This purse was made for me…too bad I’m on a self-imposed purse-buying-ban. Le sigh.
  6. All the heart-eye emojis for this blue/white gingham dress. So classic and pretty!
  7. Trying the best brunch in every state? Yes, I’d like to make that my new bucket list! Check out the full list here, and see if you agree with their pick for your state! I’ve only been to the Indiana one once (though I have also tried and loved the Kentucky pick), and it was forever ago, so I guess I need to make another trip soon!
  8. I love the embroidered saying graphic tee trend and just might have to scoop up this navy tee!
  9. J.Crew created its own holiday for March 31…National Stripes Day! And you better bet your bottom dollar that I’ll be celebrating!
  10. Target has so many great new watches out there! I love this marble face one, this pretty floral print one, and this colorful striped one! And they’re so affordable that you could buy all three…you know if you have time on your hands! ;) #dadjoke

Spring 2017 Wishlist

Spring has sprung!

Today is the first official day of spring, and while the weather might not agree…this blog writer does and is ready for all things spring. Longer days, warmer temperatures, fresh flowers (aka tulips and peonies), bare legs, and all of these spring items below.

But specifically that striped trench…hurry up and get to my house will you?! ;)

spring 2017 wishlist | Style On Target blog

Top Eleven-ish Things On My Spring Wishlist for 2017:

  1. Striped Trench – This trench is the epitome of what I want my style to be…classic with a twist, and also happens to be the number one item I want for spring. This will be a piece to wear for years to come (aka expect to see it here a lot if it fits)!
  2. Neck Scarf – Like stripes, you can never have enough neck scarves, and it truly is one of the most affordable spring trends to try out! Use them to jazz up sweaters you’ve worn for months or add one to a purse for some extra flair! This one gets extra bonus points for being red and blue, but also comes in another colored pattern!
  3. Black Lace-up Sandals – These are so pretty and will work for every possible event you may have this spring (work, weddings, weird first dates). They have great reviews online about how comfortable they are, and I am thisclose to ordering them!
  4. Blue Sunglasses –  I love what a unique color these are, while still maintaining a very classic style/shape. Gimme.
  5. Windowpane Print Dress – One day, this dress will go on sale for under $50 and that will be the day I purchase it. Love the fit and flare silhouette, and I’ll never hate on a windowpane print (especially in navy)!
  6. Statement Earrings – Move over, statement necklaces. Statement earrings are making their move for top jewelry trend this season. There are so many good ones out there right now, but these are my two favs. The black ones (here) have been seen all over blogs, but I’m also loving the Sugarfix gold ones from Target (here – so affordable)!
  7. Navy Blouse – I’ve been wanting a plain navy blouse that is kind of flowy for months, and I think I have finally found it. It comes in a few other colors and will perfect for mixing and matching (plus it would look great with the skirt that is also in the wishlist)!
  8. Patterned Sleeveless Blouse – Lately I’ve been on a huge sleeveless blouse kick, because they’re the ideal piece to layer under blazers, cardigans, or the J.Crew sweater blazer hybrids that I just can’t stop wearing. Loft and J.Crew seems to have the prettiest patterns recently (example: this blue/green plaid or this pretty floral blouse you’ll see in tomorrow’s post), so don’t mind me while I’m scooping them all up.
  9. Yellow Crossbody Purse – So yes, I already own this bag and bought it in a season that is not spring, but I still wanted to include it here. The pretty punch of yellow is sure to brighten any spring day (whether it is April showering or May flowering)!
  10. A-Line Patterned Skirt – You all see that super fun pattern on that skirt above? They’re BERRIES! Yes, adorable quirky berries in my favorite color scheme. J.Crew…what are you trying to do to my bank account!?
  11. Blue Suede Sandals – Okay, this was another wishlist item that has actually been fulfilled, but this was an item on my list for allllll of last year, so I feel compelled to share. Similar sandals were EVERYWHERE last year during spring and summer, but I could never find a low heel that was actually walkable. Well, leave it to Target to save the day…per usual…and come out with these blue beauties! They also come in four other colors, so you can wear a new color to work every day. ;)

Doesn’t everything look so pretty? And not a pair of mittens or snow boots in sight. Spring, it’s a beautiful thing!

What are you putting on your spring wishlist? Did I miss anything on mine that you have on yours?

Happy St. Patrick’s Day 2017!

Today’s fun highlights:

  • Or more like, Happy St. Palm-trick’s Day….okay, I’ll see myself out.
  • Just sporting a little green over here for St. Patrick’s Day. No pinches here. This palm leaf print tee must have been an end-of-season summer sales find last year (that I don’t remember buying…haha), and I found it in my closet when I was trying to pack for Texas. Good find, past-me…good find.
  • Which also means, I probably need to make time to do another closet cleanout. #whoops
  • But not this weekend, because we’re jammed pack with a St. Patrick’s Day celebration tonight and birthday celebrations on The Husband’s side this weekend. Ready, set, party is my motto this weekend!

Weekend sales:

Happy weekend, friends! What are you up to?
