What I Wish I Wore, Vol. 171 – Definitely Not Dull

What I Wish I Wore, Vol. 171 - Black and Bold | Style On Target blog

Yes, I built this whole post around these pants.

And no I’m not mad about it.

Because they’re more versatile than you might think (imagine them with a cream sweater or a white tee and jean jacket or a black blazer and on and on), and I can almost guarantee that you’ll never feel dull in them.

Definitely NOT dull.

Ten Things I’ve Loved This Past Week on The Internet:

  1. This cardigan looks like the snuggliest thing ever….while still maintaining the capability of wearing it into work. How does it do it?!
  2. Blogger love of the week: How cute is Jess in her pretty polka dots? Now, gimme that dress!
  3. Does it get any better than this navy gingham raincoat (pricey but definitely a classic and fun piece)?!
  4. 11 things that are just as good (or better!) than a date on Valentine’s Day. Allll of them (especially #8 and #9…you know, a Target style blog), and my parents always say #11, so I’m set there (jokes)!
  5. Loving this double link tortoise shell necklace…like J.Crew style for a whole lot less!
  6. This might be my new casual spring uniform. So classic and pulled together!
  7. Here’s a novel idea….how about we just let people like things…just because they like them? I loved this article on why you don’t have to apologize for your love for Keeping Up With the Kardashians (same here), Real Housewives, Pokemon Go!, or any other pop culture phenomenon. Preach!
  8. One of my friends at work wore this dress (in the black and white stripe option) last week and got a MILLION compliments on it (I was one of those compliment-ers!). So imagine my surprise, when it was a Target item that I hadn’t seen yet. Score! Which means, I might need to get it in the black diamond option…
  9. Statement earrings…they’re the new statement necklaces! So naturally, I love this easy and affordable way from Grace on how to get a headstart on the trend! So pretty!
  10. These black loafer pumps might need to find a way into my closet. Now, please.

ps. This is as close as I can get to a Valentine’s Day themed outfit…please accept this purple garage door as my substitute for pink!

Favorite Favorites, January 2017

What what what! I’m finally rounding up my favorite favorites from January. It took me so long to figure out what my favorites actually were, because I basically spent all of January hibernating and recovering from the holidays. However, I’m sure you all were on the edge of your seats, because you were wondering what my January favs were.

Well, wait no more, because….

HERE. WE. GO!

blue and white gingham scarf or throw; The Handmaid's Tale Atwood book

Favorite Book: The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood (here). This is kind of cheating, because as I am writing this post, I am only 14% through (according to my Kindle). However, I plan on reading it this week and during our vacation to Texas this weekend, but honestly, it might not even last that long.

I bought it because during the Super Bowl, I saw the commercial for the upcoming Amazon show that is based off the book. The commercial intrigued me, so I read a sample of the book, and it IMMEDIATELY drew me in. I love a good dystopian novel, and this definitely fits that genre. So far, it reminds me a little bit of The Giver (only in a more grown-up setting). So give it a try if that is your kind of book! Just don’t spoil it for me, since I’m not done with it yet! ;)

ps. The gingham fabric is actually a scarf is from Loft (similar here), but wouldn’t a gingham throw blanket be super cool? Add that to my want list now.

Target Merona black d'orsay flats

Favorite Shoes: These d’orsay beauties from Target (here – in black). Do I need more black flats? Probably not, but did these bad boys come home with me? You bet your bottom dollar they did. I went a 0.5 size down, because my feet are almost 0.5 size different from each other, and I figured they would stretch out some, but they’re in stores if you want to try them out yourself!

ps. They also come in beige (here) if that is more up your alley.

Favorite Drink: Grapefruit LaCroixs. All day everyday. They make me temporarily forget that it is winter…and not summer!

J.Crew gray merino sweater blazer

Favorite Clothing Item: I can’t stop, won’t stop wearing this gray sweater blazer from J.Crew (here – also comes in black). I’m actually wearing it as I write this post, and it honestly makes everything look better (including the tourist-y graphic tee that I’m currently wearing  that is over 8 years old).

I’ve worn it countless times, and I always get complimented on it. One of my co-workers actually keeps threatening to steal it from me…it’s that good. And if you don’t believe me, then read all the reviews online. Yes, it is a bit pricey, and they keep excluding it from the promos, but I still love love love it and would recommend it. If you do order it to try it out, be sure to size down as it most definitely runs large (I got a small if that helps)!

Favorite Skin Product: Oh man….have I got a product for you! It’s this exfoliating face cleanser from Body Merry (here). The brand also makes the retinol moisturizer that I use (I talked about in September’s Favorite Favorites here). I wanted to make sure that I really loved it before sharing, so I’ve been testing it out for the last 4 months or so. I use it every other day at night, and it honestly has really helped my skin by taking off all my makeup, fading scars, balancing my complexion, and preventing acne.

The bottle is quite large, and I still have about half a bottle left after using it for 4-5 months. Definitely loyal to this brand now after trying these two products (and also love their branding)! Plus, it’s available with Prime shipping, and you know this lazy girl loves that feature.

red Loft sunglasses, MAC lady bug red, essie Rock The Runway

Favorite Color: Tomato red all day, every day. A few of my favorite things in this shade? My new red sunglasses (from Loft – super affordable – here), my ultimate favorite nail polish color (Essie’s “Rock the Runway” – here), and my long lost MAC lipstick (shade is Lady Bug – here) that I rediscovered by cleaning out my bathroom cabinet drawers.

Red-dy or not, I’m wearing this color from head to toe all the time now.

Favorite Accessory: Neck scarves. I’m obsessed with them and pretty much have to stop myself from wearing them every day. You know, to show my sartorial range. I’ve amassed quite the collection in the last few month, but there’s always room for more, right?

I’ve rounded up eight options for you to check out below. They’re perfect for adding a little color or pattern to your outfit (bonus points for re-working them as headbands or tied onto your purse).

Favorite Thing to Listen To: Apparently based on the music videos I watch on Youtube, it recommended this compilation of indie/folk music (here) that’s perfect for snowy days inside wrapped up in blankets, and I really really enjoy it. Meaning I play it over and over again until The Husband makes me stop.

The Nike+ Training Club app

Favorite App: The Nike+ Training Club app (here). 1.) It’s basically like having a personal trainer on your phone telling you what moves to do and for how long. 2.) It shows you how to do each move…with a real live person. So you can see what you need to doing. 3.) You can do it in the comfort of your own home (no gym membership needed). And 4.) It’s ABSOLUTELY free. I did it for the first three weeks of January and loved it. It was so easy to use, and I could definitely tell I was pushing myself. I stopped using (because I got lazy), but I will be restarting my workouts after vacation and will be using this app again!

Favorite Cute (basically something that I think is cute)This little otter sliding down a snow hill (video here). I mean, c’mooooooonnnnnn!

Favorite Outfit: I loved this luxurious looking outfit (here)…that is really a big trick, because all the items came from very affordable stores. That’s obviously always the goal on this blog, because your girl is most definitely on a budget! But sometimes it comes across better in some outfits than others, and I’d like to think this particular look was one of those better times!

Be sure to leave your monthly favorite favorites in the comments! I’d love to hear about them!

ps. None of this is sponsored, and all of the favorite products reviewed were purchased by me (or me and The Husband when I slip them into the grocery cart)! ;)

Today’s fun highlights:

  • Yes, that title is a Jeopardy reference. Nerd alert.
  • But this outfit is basically what would happen if I became a minimalist blogger who only wore neutrals. I’m a big fan of this look, so if only wearing neutrals makes me look this chic all the time, then sign. me. UP!
  • Juuuuussst kidding, you’ll have to pry my love for colors (okay, mostly red and blue) out of my cold, dead hands.
  • And no, I’ll never be able to fold my turtleneck this well again…ever! Please take a second to appreciate the perfectness of this…because next week there is a post where it is dreadful. This is your advanced warning.
  • This weekend, we’re keeping it chill again, since we’ll be in Texas next weekend! Aka…I still need to pack. Everything.
  • Anyone have any Austin recommendations or good books to read (Anne, I’ll be skimming your blog for recs on both shortly!)?

Happy weekend, friends! What are you up to?

Five for Friday, Vol. 170 – Calling All Classics

five for friday calling all classics | Style On Target blog

Calling all classic lovers!

Grab your Audrey Hepburn DVDs, your collection of stripes, your endless pairs of walkable flats, and your vast assortment of Mozart CDs (just kidding on that last one), and sit yourself down, because today’s Five for Friday is right up your alley!

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: basics don’t have to be boring. I know….it’s shocking, but trust me. Take all these items for example. Yes, at first glance they might seem like the same old, same old, classic pieces that every blogger ever tells you to own (ugh, we’re the WORST ;)), but they’re not!

Each one has a quirky little twist that elevates them to my favorite category “basics that aren’t basic.” Like the red ballet flats (with a tiny scallop detail) or the navy schoolboy blazer (with a white trim)! So give your basics a shakeup with some of these finds and keep the outfit combos coming!
