Summer work wardrobes are hard. I’m definitely not the first to say it, and I definitely won’t be the last one to say it too….
You want to be wearing flip-flops and shorts (and be hanging out by a pool)..but trust me, HR definitely does NOT want you to do this. So consult your Employee Handbook if you want, or just head over to an Ann Taylor store or AnnTaylor.com. Because they know work wear*…even if you don’t.
Flowy dresses (mostly with sleeves…and for the ones that don’t…blazer it!), colorful skirts and blouses, fun prints/patterns, and some good old open-toe summer heels. One of each of the below 24 items, please and thank you.
*Except for all those awful off-the-shoulder tops they have. Ignore these.
You guuuuuuuuuys, Style On Target turned THREE at the beginning of the month!
I started this blog three years and one week ago (on Labor Day of all holidays), because I was bored and in search of a creative outlet, and I really wanted to be a part of the community that I had read from afar (the blogging world that is). Well, roughly 1,110 days later, I’m very rarely bored, constantly using my creative muscles, and completely in love with the community I’ve joined!
Thank you to everyone who has read a blog post (or especially, all of them…thanks Mom), left me a comment or note (I read them all even though I rarely respond), asked a question, or made a suggestion. I’ve learned so much from you all, and I can’t wait to keep learning and growing this blog for you guys.
ps. And instead of buying a very large cupcake this year, I treated myself to this gorgeous paisley skirt (LulaRoe, scored for $25 on Poshmark!) and some new/replacement ankle boots (not pictured, but here) for this very special occasion. I had done cupcakes the past two years, but the only thing better than cake is clothes that you love and will wear over and over again.
Soooooo clearly another missed opportunity here with the purchase of this skirt in August, not July. Because how perfect would this skirt have been for Red, White, and Blue Week?
The answer….pretty perfect.
But don’t worry, I’m not like other bloggers, because I don’t mind wearing red, white, and blue no matter the month, week, or day. Because every day is a good day to wear your favorite color combo…no matter what it is.
Yes, that even goes to you lovers of pink and purple.
But, excuse me while I go wash my eyes out just thinking about that. #neverpink
This month’s Style Soulmates look was inspired by my second favorite Indianapolis blogger (the first being me of course)!
Sarah from Sarah’s Real Life!
Sarah is hilarious, quick witted, and a ridiculously good print mixer. I have to say these things, mostly because she knows where I live, but also because they’re very true!
Proof? This outfit, which I stole from one of Sarah’s Instagram posts.
Stripes on top and a floral (for Sarah) / paisley (for me) skirt on the bottom. Her look works so well, because her patterns feature the same color of blue, and mine works because of the use of neutrals and matching accessories. So if you’re looking to recreate this look, just grab your classic stripe button down and a printed skirt!
So thanks for making a summer work outfit super easy, Sarah, by letting me steal this look (now let’s go grab guacamole again soon)!
You know the phrase “fake it til you make it,” right? Pretending to know what you’re doing until you can figure things out. I pretty much thrive on this phrase, and it’s really been my life motto and how I try to navigate life (except for the first and only time I tried to make coffee in the work coffee machine…yikes).
Another good life motto? Fit and flare it. As in, wear a fit-and-flare dress and take on the world.
Let’s just say it is a lot easier to master a fit-and-flare dress than it is to make a cup of work coffee. ;)
