Ten Things I’ve Loved This Past Week on The Internet:

  1. This striped cardi coat might be the BEST piece that Old Navy has ever put out. So chic and perfect for layered looks now and in spring!
  2. Blogger love of the week: Love this wintery-chic look from Sarah (and all of her non-traditional traditions)!
  3. Navy trench coat of my dreams! It’s a little early, but can you blame me? ;)
  4. Athleisure was a word of the year for 2016, and I don’t see the trend stopping in 2017, so get a jump on how you can make it work for your own life (here).
  5. You better believe that I will be buying this scallop hem skirt when the weather warms up! Pretty good price too, if you can grab it on sale!
  6. I don’t know if I have linked to this stripe peplum top before, but it is the perfect piece for the upcoming spring and summer seasons!
  7. 30 common shopping mistakes that we all make according to personal shoppers…trying to take these into the new year with me!
  8. These ankle boots have amazing review online, are on sale, available in most sizes, and come in two different colors…what more can you want?
  9. I’m really going to try to be more healthy in 2017 (me and my really creative New Year’s resolution, right), so I immediately pinned Liz’s 10 healthy recipes to help me get a good start on this goal!
  10. The Husband got me this weekender bag from Sole Society, and I love how much it holds and how expensive it looks!

Ten Things I’ve Loved This Past Week on The Internet:

  1. Want to stay warm and fashionable all winter long? Try this cozy polka dot blanket scarf!
  2. Blogger love of the week: Love Jillian’s combo of navy and rich browns for the perfect layered look for fall and winter! And her boots…LOVE!
  3. This plaid shirt is ideal for the holidays and snow days and every day in between!
  4. Christmas advertisements might be my favorite kind of ads…check out this adorable Christmas ad from Poland (in English!) that will give you alllllll the feels. (Mom, warning, might make you cry!)
  5. Put a little pom-pom sweater into your life this winter, and I promise you’ll smile every time you have to bundle up in it!
  6. Get a little retro vibe in your outfit with this geometric print scarf (comes in three different color combos)!
  7. Emma Stone and Jimmy Fallon together might be my favorite combination ever. Watch them play the “Whisper Game” for a few laughs…especially from Emma!
  8. Why oh why does Kate Spade have the cutest things…for way over my budget!? Look how perfect this map-of-Europe watch is for your favorite traveler…oh and me! ;) And then squint your eyes when you’re looking at the price tag!
  9. My new favorite Christmas album is Kacey Musgrave’s “A Very Kacey Christmas.” It is a great mixture of new songs and classic standbys. Check it out on Spotify here!
  10. We got our first snow last week, so I’m eyeing winter weather items to keep me warm all winter long, and I think these would look great with skinny jeans, a sweater, and maybe a winter coat too (maybe this one?)!

*I don’t know if anyone else in the world has done this, but yes, I pinned a brooch to this skirt…and I liked it! ;) A little bit of extra glam never hurt anyone!

Don’t you just love it when your favorite spring/summer items can successfully make the leap to winter outfits?

I mean…I know I do. Versatile is my middle name. (Aren’t my parents cool…so trendy!)

So I was pumped when I discovered Annebeth’s outfit on Pinterest that would allow me to wear my favorite summer skirt in a new way…with plenty of winter layers to keep me warm!

Long live the denim skirt. ;)

Cool on Classics

Today’s fun highlights:

  • I’m not sure about the proportion element of this outfit, but I’m posting it anyways, because I love the mix of these classic items for a cool street style look.
  • I’m also not sure how I feel about the results of the election. I’m now at the point where I am accepting them and am cautiously hopeful about the future and the goodness of the general population of America.
  • But believe me, Wednesday was ROUGH. I called my mom bawling during my lunch hour, because I needed an adult to tell me things would be okay. And then I browsed J.Crew at the mall and didn’t buy a single thing!
  • I still believe in the goodness of people, and I still believe that love will prevail. And that’s the last you’ll hear from me about the election. The future is waiting to see what we do next. Let’s get to it.
  • In other (much more light hearted news), one of my best friend’s birthdays is today! Happy last-birthday-in-your-20s, B! We’re spending our weekend in Bloomington, IN this weekend celebrating her and The Husband (who has his own birthday on Sunday….happy early birthday, Love!)! I can’t wait to be back in some of my favorite places with some of my favorite people. Cheers to that!

Weekend sales:

Happy weekend, friends! What are you up to?

Lisbon/Portugal Travel Diary

DSC09423

Our next stop was Lisbon in Portugal. We had no idea what to expect from our trip, since we only know a handful of people who have been to Portugal, but what we didn’t really expect was 80+ degrees of summer temperatures in October!

Despite the heat, we really enjoyed all of the sights, sweets, and tile of Lisbon! It’s slowly becoming a more popular European travel destination, but still has a non-touristy feel!

Top Ten Things to Do in Lisbon/Portugal (in the order we did them):

  1. Explore Faster Via a Hop-On/Hop-Off Bus -This is always been my best recommendation in most European cities…the dreaded “tourist” hop-on/hop-off bus. Yes, you look like a tourist on your giant double-decker bus, but isn’t that what we all are when we visit a new/foreign city? These tours help you see the best sites (with some fun facts thrown in) in the city that you are in…and you’ll get there quickly! In Lisbon, the bus will take you out to Belém, which is difficult to get to on your own!
  2. Sample a Pastel del Nata – The tastiest little egg custard pastries (see them in one of my snapshots above) that are basically the national dessert/treat of choice. The best ones (in my opinion) are in Belém, but you can find them everywhere! Best enjoyed warmed with a cappuccino!
  3. Find All the Tile You Can – This should be pretty easy to do, since there are little touches of tile all throughout the city! It’s all over the walls and covering the sidewalks and streets. Apparently, it is super costly to repair when on the ground, and the city has expressed interest in slowly getting rid of it, but the residents just won’t let it go (which I greatly appreciate)!
  4. Take in a Sunset from a Rooftop Bar – A lot of people recommended Park, but I actually prefered the views from Hotel Mundial (though they were both beautiful). Good people, great sangria, and even greater views at sunset!
  5. Try Something Outside of Your Comfort Zone (Foodwise) – Maybe it is octopus salad? Maybe it is cuttlefish stew? Or maybe it is a pastry that you have no idea what is inside of it, because you can’t read Portuguese. Just try it! Worse case scenario? You won’t like it…and you can use your Euros to buy something else!
  6. Hike Up to São Jorge Castle – Lisbon is a lot like San Francisco (hills galore, trolleys, and a Golden Gate-esque bridge), so bring some comfortable walking shoes and hike up some stairs and inclined roads to a Moorish-style castle and gorgeous views of the city.
  7. Explore the Three Neighborhoods – We like our Rick Steves walking tours (no matter what European country we’re in), and he took us through the three neighborhoods  (Rossio, Alfama, and Bairro Alto), each which has its own hidden gems. Lisbon is a great walking city, so if you ever visit, be sure to wind your ways through the hidden alleys/streets.
  8. Listen to Some Fado – The sad and longing musical styling of Portugal. Most commonly, these songs are about the sea or losing someone or something to the sea. We had dinner in a fado restaurant and enjoyed having our seafood with a side of fado songs!
  9. Day Trip It to Sintra – Sintra is a town that is about a 40-minute train ride outside of Lisbon. It has roughly 20 different sites to visit and is definitely worth a day trip (if not even more time)!
  10. Pena Palace – Worth a mention of its own, since it is THE palace (and place) to visit in Sintra (even though the Moorish castle is great too). It was built by the cousin of King Ludwig II (who built Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany), and it basically a Disney castle come to life (see it in the picture directly below). Crazy bright primary colors with tile and carving all over the place! And beyond the castle, the views from the top are great too, and the garden/grounds are gorgeous!
