Shocked face: It’s really -11 degrees out here.
Off work again! We’re starting to go stir crazy here in Indianapolis. Our travel advisory finally moved from warning to watch, so we’re more than likely going to be back at work tomorrow. Hooray (I never thought I would say that)!
This combination of plaid and a cozy sweater really did the trick today. I thought about titling this post, “Fancy Lumberjack” because of all the outdoorsmen elements (plaid, wool-ish socks, duck boots) wrapped up into one outfit. However, it must have worked, since I was toasty warm inside our house. This also might be because I am also currently in charge of the thermostat. It was the perfect look for a winter day. The gold chain necklace and the touch of lipstick glam it up just a bit (did I mention I am going stir crazy). My new blog friend, Sara, made one of her 2014 resolutions to wear more lipsticks, and I think I am going to join her in this one.

pps. Winter sunlight reflecting off all the snow is not good for clear eye shots.

I wore this in honor of my beloved Indianapolis Colts (NFL team, in case you are completely lost), and their huge comeback win on Saturday. I had the privilege of attending the game with my dad, and it was absolutely amazing, exciting, almost heartbreaking, and thrilling! No words to describe my love of the game and this team.
I had planned on wearing this to work today to show my team colors (blue and white), but guess what? We have an official snow day thanks to this crazy winter weather we are having in the Midwest. If you haven’t heard about in the news, check it out…this is big! I think the temperature outside is like -12 (and even colder with every gust of wind), so The Fiance and I braved the bitter cold to bring you these photos. Hence, the cold red face and the crazy wind. We’re hunkering down inside for the day and might watch a movie and drink lots of hot chocolate. Pretty good for a Monday, I think!
ps. My mom was right again (see here when I rocked red tights because she said I could). This houndstooth jacket is not old ladyish (like I thought here), and I love it. Soooo, Mom: 2, Katie: 0.

Hooray! I made it to the weekend. Do you ever just have those weeks that make you feel like you won’t make it until Friday at quitting time? That was this week for me, which is the reason for this comfy combination of “the warmest cardigan I own” and jeans and a tee. I blame all the holiday time off (which I wouldn’t trade for the world, by the way). Here’s to next week and getting back on my normal schedule at work (and therefore life).
The trick to this necklace, which is actually shorter in real life? I fold a cheap chain necklace in half, looped it through the connectors, and presto, extra long necklace! Maybe I’ll do a tutorial on that this weekend?
This weekend’s plans besides potential necklace tutorial: chicken pitas, tons of NFL football playoff games (go Colts), Sunday brunch with The Fiance (a new tradition that I love), coffee, puppy snuggles, and seeing my dad.
What are you up to this weekend?

Ummm, so surprise snowstorm last night? Not cool, winter, not cool. I do a terrible job of following the weather (it just isn’t high on my priority list – sleep and shopping is?), so I was completely caught off guard by the four inches of snow that we got last night. Nothing says welcome to 2014 like a snowstorm, right?
At least I was prepared to layer it up today. This cardigan paired perfectly with my little boy’s gingham shirt for some winter blue layering. Ankle boots and jeans finished off the look for another casual look for work. It’s back to business casual next week, so expect some non-jeans. Sad face.
Our backyard (where I normally take my photos) is deep with snow, so our front porch served as a decent substitute. Our dead plants are to left and our cool outlet plug to the right. Just what you wanted to see, right? Come spring/summer, I’m on a mission to find some good background locations, so stick around for another three months, will you?

The cutest, most awkward thing to ever happened to me occurred today, while wearing this outfit. I took a half day at work to finish up the rest of my vacation days and met my friend, B, for some shopping. We did some damage at Target and headed to our local thrift shop since we hadn’t been in forever. We walked in the door and hadn’t even been there for more than 45 seconds before a sweet middle-aged woman walked over to us. This is what went down:
Woman: “You! Can you do my a huge favor? This might be weird, but are you about six foot tall?”
Me: “Ummm. Sure? Maybe in these heels, I am about that?”
Woman: (holds out this cute black dress with gold sequins on top) “Can you try this on? My daughter is about your height and body type, though her shoulders might be broader. I want to get her a present and wanted to see if this would work.”
Me: “How sweet! Sure?!”
I hand my Starbucks to B, go to the dressing room with the dress, and put it on. However, I can’t reach the zipper in the back to zip it up all the way. The lady asks permission to zip up the dress the rest of the way, and I say yes. So she zips me up. The dress fit so well (so much so that for four seconds, I contemplated stealing it from her), and she was so excited and happy that it worked.
Woman: “It works! It fits perfectly, though my daughter isn’t as busty as you.”
And that is how my last afternoon of 2013 went. What a way to go out! I’d like to think the playful combination of stripes and polka dots drew this lady to me, but in all likelihood, it was the fact that these ankle boots make me a giant. Here’s to this sweet and courageous lady (seriously, how much guts did it take to ask me to do this…I love that she did!),her daughter, and all the good karma coming to me in 2014 for this tiny good deed!
