Favorite Favorites, February 2017

Yes, we’re halfway through March, and yes, I’ve gotten a little out of sync with my Favorite Favorites posts, but I’ve got some great finds to talk about from February, sooooo….

HERE. WE. GO!

j.crew signet purse

Favorite Accessory: The signet bag from J.Crew. Are you sick of me talking about this yet? Well, too bad! I now have it in red and yellow, and I think it is the perfect shape and size for me! I can fit most of the things I normally carry: wallet, sunglasses, keys, phone, and 15 lip-sticks/balms/glosses. You know, the usual.

ps. This shot is from J.Crew’s website, because I am definitely not cool enough to have leopard wallpaper in my house…

Favorite TreatThis popcorn from Boom Chicka Pop. Soooo good and just the right balance of salty and sweet. One bag barely lasts two days a week in our house, because I am a popcorn monster. It is also the perfect snack to bring to a girl’s night when you plan to watch trashy TV, but end up talking about podcasts, product reviews, and politics! You know, if you do that kind of thing!  ;)

(Love you, B!)

Favorite State to Visit: Texas! It was such a great first trip to Texas for me, and you just can’t beat the weather (or the BBQ) that we had! I’m hoping to do a trip recap for you, but I need the weather in Indiana to cooperate, so I can shoot the spring looks that I wore down there. So for now you’ll just have to catch the photos on my Instagram (here). Early highlights though?

The Riverwalk in San Antonio. Tacos in Austin. The Hamilton Pool and its gorgeous waterfall. And lastly (but best of all), meeting Nicole from Writes Like a Girl and sharing delicious mac and cheese with her, Dago, and The Husband!

favorite coffee Dominican Republic

Favorite DrinkCafe Santo Domingo coffee (here). I can’t believe I haven’t shared my favorite coffee with you guys yet! We had the most amazing coffee on our honeymoon (almost three years ago) and tried forever to track it down. Someone suggested this brand in some forum, and then when I Googled it, I found it with a bunch of reviews confirming it was super similar to what others had drank in the Dominican Republic.

Best part? You can get it from Amazon…delivered to your door. So you’ll never go uncaffeinated again!

ps. This mug is old from Old Navy, but here is a super similar one from Target!

Favorite Shoes: These gingham ballet flat beauties from Banana Republic. They’re sadly out of stock in my size, but they still are gorgeous and a great spring style! They’d work so well with navy work pants now and a white or light blue sundress later! They also come in a super pretty heel version here. Want them alllllll!

eye masks

Favorite Skin Product: These ridiculously affordable eye masks. This might be the most excited I have ever been to share a beauty product with you guys…because it seriously works! Now, I’m certainly no beauty expert, but the reviews online were great too and align with my results. My under-eye area is super dark and sunken, and just one use of these made them lighter and visibly not-as-sunken (if that makes any sense at all). Super hydrating, easy to use, and non-beauty blogger recommended! ;)

And as an extra bonus, when I ordered these, I thought I was only getting one pack with 30 sheets in it (so 15 sets – one for each eye) and still thought it was a really good deal compared to other masks at Sephora or Ulta. WRONG. You get two 30-sheet packs! Win!

Favorite Clothing Item: Ignoring the gray sweater blazer from J.Crew (here – which is my real favorite favorite forever), my favorite article of clothing this month had to be these striped tees from Old Navy (here). They’re great quality and are so so so affordable, especially if you can catch them during a 30-40% sale! My favorite is probably the plain black/white, but I also have the red/white and love that too. I know I was so loyal to the striped tees from Merona at Target (here), but these are a little thicker (in a good way), and I like that they aren’t as fitted sometimes.

Plus, can a girl really have too many stripes (no…no is definitely the answer)!

J.R. Watkins Aloe and Green Tea Scented Hand Soap

Favorite Household ProductThis J.R. Watkins Aloe and Green Tea hand soap (here) that I picked up 1.) because we ACTUALLY needed hand soap and 2.) because I’m a sucker for marketing and cute labels. And I studied marketing, so you would think I would know better! Anyways, yes, it looks super pretty (like you bought it from a specialty shop…and not Target). And it is foaming, so it more fun than your average soap. And it smells so so so good! Highly recommend!

And next time I want to grab the lavender scented one (here)!

Favorite Cute (basically something that I think is cute): This avocado purse. So tiny. So cute. So not practical for a 29-year-old. But hey….it’s still adorable!

Favorite Outfit: Two way tie between this yellow cardigan + striped dress look and this cherry print dress option. Two cheery looks for dreary winter!

Be sure to leave your monthly favorite favorites in the comments! I’d love to hear about them!

Favorite Favorites, January 2017

What what what! I’m finally rounding up my favorite favorites from January. It took me so long to figure out what my favorites actually were, because I basically spent all of January hibernating and recovering from the holidays. However, I’m sure you all were on the edge of your seats, because you were wondering what my January favs were.

Well, wait no more, because….

HERE. WE. GO!

blue and white gingham scarf or throw; The Handmaid's Tale Atwood book

Favorite Book: The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood (here). This is kind of cheating, because as I am writing this post, I am only 14% through (according to my Kindle). However, I plan on reading it this week and during our vacation to Texas this weekend, but honestly, it might not even last that long.

I bought it because during the Super Bowl, I saw the commercial for the upcoming Amazon show that is based off the book. The commercial intrigued me, so I read a sample of the book, and it IMMEDIATELY drew me in. I love a good dystopian novel, and this definitely fits that genre. So far, it reminds me a little bit of The Giver (only in a more grown-up setting). So give it a try if that is your kind of book! Just don’t spoil it for me, since I’m not done with it yet! ;)

ps. The gingham fabric is actually a scarf is from Loft (similar here), but wouldn’t a gingham throw blanket be super cool? Add that to my want list now.

Target Merona black d'orsay flats

Favorite Shoes: These d’orsay beauties from Target (here – in black). Do I need more black flats? Probably not, but did these bad boys come home with me? You bet your bottom dollar they did. I went a 0.5 size down, because my feet are almost 0.5 size different from each other, and I figured they would stretch out some, but they’re in stores if you want to try them out yourself!

ps. They also come in beige (here) if that is more up your alley.

Favorite Drink: Grapefruit LaCroixs. All day everyday. They make me temporarily forget that it is winter…and not summer!

J.Crew gray merino sweater blazer

Favorite Clothing Item: I can’t stop, won’t stop wearing this gray sweater blazer from J.Crew (here – also comes in black). I’m actually wearing it as I write this post, and it honestly makes everything look better (including the tourist-y graphic tee that I’m currently wearing  that is over 8 years old).

I’ve worn it countless times, and I always get complimented on it. One of my co-workers actually keeps threatening to steal it from me…it’s that good. And if you don’t believe me, then read all the reviews online. Yes, it is a bit pricey, and they keep excluding it from the promos, but I still love love love it and would recommend it. If you do order it to try it out, be sure to size down as it most definitely runs large (I got a small if that helps)!

Favorite Skin Product: Oh man….have I got a product for you! It’s this exfoliating face cleanser from Body Merry (here). The brand also makes the retinol moisturizer that I use (I talked about in September’s Favorite Favorites here). I wanted to make sure that I really loved it before sharing, so I’ve been testing it out for the last 4 months or so. I use it every other day at night, and it honestly has really helped my skin by taking off all my makeup, fading scars, balancing my complexion, and preventing acne.

The bottle is quite large, and I still have about half a bottle left after using it for 4-5 months. Definitely loyal to this brand now after trying these two products (and also love their branding)! Plus, it’s available with Prime shipping, and you know this lazy girl loves that feature.

red Loft sunglasses, MAC lady bug red, essie Rock The Runway

Favorite Color: Tomato red all day, every day. A few of my favorite things in this shade? My new red sunglasses (from Loft – super affordable – here), my ultimate favorite nail polish color (Essie’s “Rock the Runway” – here), and my long lost MAC lipstick (shade is Lady Bug – here) that I rediscovered by cleaning out my bathroom cabinet drawers.

Red-dy or not, I’m wearing this color from head to toe all the time now.

Favorite Accessory: Neck scarves. I’m obsessed with them and pretty much have to stop myself from wearing them every day. You know, to show my sartorial range. I’ve amassed quite the collection in the last few month, but there’s always room for more, right?

I’ve rounded up eight options for you to check out below. They’re perfect for adding a little color or pattern to your outfit (bonus points for re-working them as headbands or tied onto your purse).

Favorite Thing to Listen To: Apparently based on the music videos I watch on Youtube, it recommended this compilation of indie/folk music (here) that’s perfect for snowy days inside wrapped up in blankets, and I really really enjoy it. Meaning I play it over and over again until The Husband makes me stop.

The Nike+ Training Club app

Favorite App: The Nike+ Training Club app (here). 1.) It’s basically like having a personal trainer on your phone telling you what moves to do and for how long. 2.) It shows you how to do each move…with a real live person. So you can see what you need to doing. 3.) You can do it in the comfort of your own home (no gym membership needed). And 4.) It’s ABSOLUTELY free. I did it for the first three weeks of January and loved it. It was so easy to use, and I could definitely tell I was pushing myself. I stopped using (because I got lazy), but I will be restarting my workouts after vacation and will be using this app again!

Favorite Cute (basically something that I think is cute)This little otter sliding down a snow hill (video here). I mean, c’mooooooonnnnnn!

Favorite Outfit: I loved this luxurious looking outfit (here)…that is really a big trick, because all the items came from very affordable stores. That’s obviously always the goal on this blog, because your girl is most definitely on a budget! But sometimes it comes across better in some outfits than others, and I’d like to think this particular look was one of those better times!

Be sure to leave your monthly favorite favorites in the comments! I’d love to hear about them!

Favorite Favorites, December/End of 2016

Holy, moly, me-oh-my.

2017 is HERE!

Hasta la vista, 2016, but before you get up and go let the door hit you on the way out, let’s round up my last favorite favorites (all discovered in 2016) for December’s favorites!

Ready, set, go!

vine plant in macrame hanging basket

Favorite Home Purchase: This adorable little plant (which of course, at this point, I can’t remember what kind it actually is) and its perfect macrame hanger. The plant is from Meijer (which actually has a great plant department!) and the macrame hanger is from this Etsy shop! Full disclosure, I have a black thumb, meaning I kill almost all plants that I encounter. BUT, I wanted a plant in our house to inject some “life” into our space and because I love all the hanging plants that I see on Pinterest/Instagram. So The Husband gave me one chance to keep this plant alive, and he’s been going strong for 1.5 months now! Success!

ps. I’ve named him Planty, because I’m super creative like that. Do you have plants…and if so, do you name them?

Favorite Accessory: This little red crossbody purse from J.Crew (here – it comes in several other colors/patterns). I score it with a coupon code when it was on sale last week, and I can’t stop wearing it. It’s the perfect size (I can fit my gloves, wallet, keys, a few lip products, and sunglasses in it)  and goes with EVERYTHING!

Favorite Clothing Item: It has been soooo cold lately in Indiana, plus with all the holiday time and hanging out with family in December, that I haven’t really been leaving the house much or getting dressed in real-people clothes. Therefore, I have been living in my Indiana University sweatshirt and alternating between these Zella leggings (AMAZING, y’all) and these plaid J.Crew pajama pants (also amazing and on sale!). Let’s just call it a comfy remix, shall we?

Harney & Sons chocolate mint tea Target

Favorite Drink: This chocolate mint tea from Harney & Sons. I read another blogger talking about Teavana’s white chocolate mint tea and it sounded super interesting, but I’m never at our mall that has our Teavana in it. So instead, I decided to check out the tea aisle of Target (of course) and stumbled upon this chocolate mint tea tin (here). I think it is best brewed and steeped and then add a splash of milk into it! I’ve been drinking it at nights because it tastes like a dessert drink! Highly recommend if you like peppermint bark and/or tea!

Favorite Activity: Obsessing over this new-to-me game, Stardew Valley (here). My brother introduced it to me, and he should have told me that it would be addicting, so I’m passing that warning onto you now. I can’t stop playing it. It’s the cutest, and you’re basically in charge of your own farm with gardens and farm animals, etc. If you remember playing Harvest Moon or Animal Crossing and liked those style of games, you’ll LOVE Stardew Valley. Nerd alert over. ;)

Target Merona red ballet flats

Favorite ShoesThese red ballet flats were perfect for adding a punch of holiday red to any outfit in December, and I know they will be great come spring and summer too! Grab them now (here) while you can get them on sale!

ps. And these beautiful poinsettias also were in Meijer…killing it in the plant department (who knew?)!

Favorite Beauty Product: These chubby lip crayons from Neutrogena. I have the Wine Berry color and it is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous. They slide on so easy, are fairly pigmented, and are super moisturizing (which is perfect for this dry winter weather)! Oh, and check out those reviews!! I’m already scoping out what my next color should be!

S'well bike bicycle water bottle Target

Favorite Gift (4-way tie): I was spoiled beyond belief this year with Christmas gifts, so big thank you to my family! My favorites included this adorable bike S’well bottle (herethat my dad apparently picked out before seeing it in my gift guide post here…too funny), the plaid blanket that my mom made me (see it behind the candle in the photo below) that I have been using every single day, these boots from J.Crew (here – in black) that my brother graciously bought for me, and the Lumineers tickets that The Husband super-surprised me with! See what I mean…spoiled!

ps. Nail polish is my usual favorite, Essie’s “Rock the Runway” (here).

Favorite Hair Product: Aveda’s “Shampure” line (shampoo – here and conditioner – here). I have been using for over 6 months now, and I don’t know if I will ever buy another shampoo/conditioner combo ever again. Yes, it’s pricey, and yes, there is probably a Suave version out there that is similar, but it definitely makes my hair manageable and healthy-looking. Oh, and I have to wash it less thanks to it AND my second favorite hair find in 2016 (this dry shampoo for brunettes). TMI?

Bath & Body Works Bergamot Waters candle

Favorite Candle: In addition to my other Christmas gifts, my sister-in-laws both picked out candles from Bath & Body Works that they thought I would like…and man did they both hit it out of the park! I loved ALL of the six scents I received, but I think my favorite of the bunch was this Bergamot Waters one (here). Very nature-y…in the best way possible!

Favorite Outfit: Far and beyond any of my other outfits this month, this stripe and buffalo plaid combo was my favorite outfit from December. Maybe it is the silhouette, the print-mixing, or the color combination…or maybe it is all three! (Though someone did say I looked like Kate Middleton in this look here, so maybe that one should win by default?)

Be sure to leave your monthly favorite favorites in the comments! I’d love to hear about them!

Favorite Favorites, November 2016

How in the world are we at the last Favorite Favorites post for 2016 (December’s post will go up in 2017…whaaaaat)!? I promise some month I won’t start this post with the same rambling sentences about “how this month went by so fast” and “how is it already the next month already,” but unfortunately some month isn’t this month.

Shall we get onto the favorites already, then?

Target Christmas plaid wrapping paper and fox ornament; Target Christmas scene

Favorite Christmas Items: The Husband and I picked out our wrapping paper this year, and it’s this combo of buffalo plaid and a winter forest scene complete with foxes (here and here…from Target, duh!). It’s pretty much the cutest ever…just like this little ceramic fox ornament that kind of looks like my dog, Cooper, so of course I had to sneak it into our Target cart and onto our tree (thanks Husband!).

Favorite Clothing Item: I’ve been living in these cashmere sweaters from Macy’s. We all know that cashmere can get expensive, but Macy’s occasionally has these guys for under $50, which is right up my alley! They’re the perfect layering piece for winter or for just wearing on their own with jeans for the weekend. I think the black cherry color is just the prettiest shade and might be the next one I set my eye on!

Target red and white stripe socks

Favorite Activity: Cozying up to our fireplace in these candy cane stripe socks. The perfect comfy, cozy way to survive those long winter nights.

Favorite Hair Tool: Revlon Hot Air Tool. This is a game changer, folks. A game changer! I don’t really even know how to describe it other that it is basically a round brush mounted onto a hair dryer. You can dry and style your hair at the same time, and it’s a breeze. It’s MADE for people like me (who lack any coordination whatsoever). You basically become your favorite hair stylist with no training…for $15! Deal. Me. In.

IT Cosmetics CC cream with travel brush

Favorite Beauty Product: It Cosmetics CC cream. OMG, you guys. I’ve talked about foundations I’ve loved in the past year multiple times, but this stuff is golden. It basically falls between the coverage of a foundation and a tinted moisturizer and has all the pros of both and no cons! I saw several bloggers recommended it, so I bought the travel size bottle (here) before committing to the full-sized bottle (also a great way to find out what color works best for your skin). I also bought this little travel brush (here – also from IT Cosmetics), and I think it works great for traveling AND applying at home!

Favorite Shoes: I saw another blogger wearing an expensive pair of boots that looked similar to these Sam Edelman slouch knee-high boots, so when I found them for under $100, it was a no-brainer to place the order! They should be coming this week, so fingers crossed that they work out for me!

Starbucks red holiday cup; red nails; Holiday Spice latte

Favorite Drink: The Holiday Spice Flat White from Starbucks is back (yes, this is last year’s red cup)! I’m letting you know now, because last year it was almost too late to try one out for yourself. My bestie, B, and I have been calling them Christmas hug drinks, because 1.) we’re adults and 2.) the best way to describe them is  a warm, cinnamon hug…you know, if that makes sense at all! It’s perfect for those of you like me that don’t want the syrup-y sweet drinks, but something other than just coffee all the time! And it’s even better with an extra shot of espresso in it (pro-tip ;))!

ps. Grab a similar black and red buffalo plaid scarf here.

Favorite Accessory: Blanket scarves. Yes, I said that after talking about Starbucks. I’m basic, you’re basic. Let’s just grab some Starbucks and wrap up in our blanket scarves. You know you want to. ;)

Favorite Nail Polish Color: This combination: Sally Hansen Miracle Gel “Bare Dare” (exact) + Essie “Hors D’oeuvres” (exact). It’s the perfect sparkle and shine while not being too over the top. Just paint one light layer of “Bare Dare”, let it dry, and then paint the Essie “Hors D’oeuvres” on top of that. Top it all off with your favorite top coat, and you’ve got some subtle sparkle!

IMG_0823

Favorite Cute (basically something that I think is cute): Ummmm this little Cooper puppy (who is not little and not a puppy). Not that I am a biased dog mom or anything, but seriously. He’s the cutest and hasn’t made an appearance on the blog in quite some time, so enjoy his precious little mug!

Favorite Outfit: Apparently, I’m currently having a blazer-skirt-ankle-strap-pumps moment, because this month’s favorite outfit is a two-way tie between this navy striped look (with my favorite blazer ever) and this black and white animal graphic look. Which means, I’m sure there are more of them to come this month! ;)

Be sure to leave your monthly favorite favorites in the comments! I’d love to hear about them!

Favorite Favorites, October 2016

Where is 2016 going and how am I already packing up my Halloween costume again (here if you missed it)? October is over, and now we’ve reached the mad rush of the holiday season! Eeeep! But for now, let’s spend another post reflecting on glorious October and my monthly favorites!

The gift guides can wait til tomorrow (no really, they’re starting tomorrow)! ;)

bath and body works flannel candle

Favorite CandleFlannel from Bath and Body Works. Just like Crisp Morning Air from the August favorite favorites, this is a perfect fall candle and literally smells like cuddling up with a blanket at someone’s fancy log cabin in the autumn woods. If someone actually has one of those and wants to invite me over, please let me know. I’ll come, and I’ll bring this candle for you! ;)

ps. The background is The Husband’s J.Crew Factory plaid shirt. Get one for the guy you love (or yourself) here.

Favorite Nail Polish Color: I tried another shade this month from the Essie Gel Couture collection (“Bubbles Only” – a darker red), and it was fine, but I still keep coming back to my all-time favorite, “Rock the Runway,” which is a perfect candy apple red.

Image result for j crew ring of kerry

Favorite Color for Fall: Green! Olive green, forest green, moss green. All of the dark greens (except kale…pass on kale) in my closet, please! I can’t get enough of the color lately, and have rounded up some of my favorites below!

Favorite Treat: Reese’s Pumpkins. Why are these the best? Someone explain (and yes, it likely has to do with the peanut butter to chocolate ratio).

Favorite Book:  11/22/63 by Stephen King. Well, it’s more like the only one that I read in all of October, but don’t worry, it was SUPER good and long! It took me most of the summer and most of my European flights to get through. I’ve been really into Stephen King’s writing lately (though I don’t always love his endings), and this one is all about time travel and stopping the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The details that he includes and the research that must have gone into this one…I can’t even imagine! Highly recommended!

city of prague5

Favorite City: Oh, Prague. You’re a looker, and my favorite city from our entire trip! I’ll have more on the fine city of Prague in a future post! But for now, apparently all the white swans in the world live in Prague (#falsefact)…I mean seriously, have you ever seen so many in one place?!

Favorite Accessory: This tote purse from Sole Society looks EXACTLY like the Madewell transport tote but for half the price! And it comes in three different colors (black, tan, and oxblood).

Batiste Brunette Dry Shampoo

Favorite Beauty Product: Batiste Brunette Dry Shampoo. Ummmm, life-changing. I had never been one to get the hype of dry shampoo, but this product changed allllll of that. This is actually my second bottle/can of the spray, and I’m definitely a convert. And for you blondes out there? They make one specifically for you too, but I can’t confirm how great it may/may not be. Because I was only a blonde for Halloween…not real life! ;)

Favorite Clothing Item: My new brown corduroy blazer from J.Crew (here). Definitely worth the price given the quality, fit, and the fact that I can wear it with EVERYTHING!

Favorite Outfit: My favorite outfit of mine from all of October was this easy stripe and corduroy skirt combination. Because you can’t go wrong with stripes (truth) or black and brown combos (okay, that you can go wrong with)!

Be sure to leave your monthly favorite favorites in the comments! I’d love to hear about them!
