Favorite Favorites, October 2016

Where is 2016 going and how am I already packing up my Halloween costume again (here if you missed it)? October is over, and now we’ve reached the mad rush of the holiday season! Eeeep! But for now, let’s spend another post reflecting on glorious October and my monthly favorites!

The gift guides can wait til tomorrow (no really, they’re starting tomorrow)! ;)

bath and body works flannel candle

Favorite CandleFlannel from Bath and Body Works. Just like Crisp Morning Air from the August favorite favorites, this is a perfect fall candle and literally smells like cuddling up with a blanket at someone’s fancy log cabin in the autumn woods. If someone actually has one of those and wants to invite me over, please let me know. I’ll come, and I’ll bring this candle for you! ;)

ps. The background is The Husband’s J.Crew Factory plaid shirt. Get one for the guy you love (or yourself) here.

Favorite Nail Polish Color: I tried another shade this month from the Essie Gel Couture collection (“Bubbles Only” – a darker red), and it was fine, but I still keep coming back to my all-time favorite, “Rock the Runway,” which is a perfect candy apple red.

Image result for j crew ring of kerry

Favorite Color for Fall: Green! Olive green, forest green, moss green. All of the dark greens (except kale…pass on kale) in my closet, please! I can’t get enough of the color lately, and have rounded up some of my favorites below!

Favorite Treat: Reese’s Pumpkins. Why are these the best? Someone explain (and yes, it likely has to do with the peanut butter to chocolate ratio).

Favorite Book:  11/22/63 by Stephen King. Well, it’s more like the only one that I read in all of October, but don’t worry, it was SUPER good and long! It took me most of the summer and most of my European flights to get through. I’ve been really into Stephen King’s writing lately (though I don’t always love his endings), and this one is all about time travel and stopping the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The details that he includes and the research that must have gone into this one…I can’t even imagine! Highly recommended!

city of prague5

Favorite City: Oh, Prague. You’re a looker, and my favorite city from our entire trip! I’ll have more on the fine city of Prague in a future post! But for now, apparently all the white swans in the world live in Prague (#falsefact)…I mean seriously, have you ever seen so many in one place?!

Favorite Accessory: This tote purse from Sole Society looks EXACTLY like the Madewell transport tote but for half the price! And it comes in three different colors (black, tan, and oxblood).

Batiste Brunette Dry Shampoo

Favorite Beauty Product: Batiste Brunette Dry Shampoo. Ummmm, life-changing. I had never been one to get the hype of dry shampoo, but this product changed allllll of that. This is actually my second bottle/can of the spray, and I’m definitely a convert. And for you blondes out there? They make one specifically for you too, but I can’t confirm how great it may/may not be. Because I was only a blonde for Halloween…not real life! ;)

Favorite Clothing Item: My new brown corduroy blazer from J.Crew (here). Definitely worth the price given the quality, fit, and the fact that I can wear it with EVERYTHING!

Favorite Outfit: My favorite outfit of mine from all of October was this easy stripe and corduroy skirt combination. Because you can’t go wrong with stripes (truth) or black and brown combos (okay, that you can go wrong with)!

Be sure to leave your monthly favorite favorites in the comments! I’d love to hear about them!

ps. None of this is sponsored, and all of the favorite products reviewed were purchased by me (or me and The Husband when I slip them into the grocery cart)! ;)

Favorite Favorites, September 2016

What what what?! Another month down, another month closer to Christmas!

Just kidding, guys (kinda)…let’s not rush away my favorite season! And on that note, here are my favorites from September!

Vanilla Almond tea from The Republic of Tea

Favorite DrinkVanilla Almond tea from The Republic of Tea. I ordered this tea at brunch one morning (since I had already had more than enough coffee) and really enjoyed it. I love having tea around during fall and winter, so I picked some up from World Market (along with some green tea KitKats) to have at home. So comforting!

ps. The patterned thing behind the tea is this scarf from Old Navy (steal of the century)!

Favorite New App: I was trying to find some new apps to download to entertain myself during the flight to Europe, and one site recommended Pocket, an app that lets you save articles, images, blog posts, etc. all in one spot…that you can access when you’re offline/not on wifi! Seeing how 22 million people have downloaded this, you’ve probably heard of it, but I’m late to the game!

So Delicious Cashew Milk frozen dessert Snickerdoodle

Favorite Treat: I don’t have milk allergies, but I saw this So Delicious Cashew Milk frozen dessert (aka ice cream) in Snickerdoodle…and had to try it out. I’m on my third container, so needless to say…it is super good. The best part? The chucks of snickerdoodle cookie dough.

Favorite Shoes: I haven’t found a pair of lace-up flats that I truly love for my feet…until I tried on this pair from Madewell. I should have bought them, but I didn’t, so now I’m having the opposite of buyer’s remorse? They’re on sale too!

j.crew fall in Amsterdam favorites

Favorite Clothing Item(s): Anything and everything from J.Crew’s trip-to-Amsterdam catalog. They took the pictures along the canals and bike lanes of Amsterdam (which if you remember from my Amsterdam post (here if you missed it) was my favorite city ever! The bikes, the boats, the people, and the stroopwafels! I know I’m currently in Europe, but I might need to make a detour back to Amsterdam soon (and you know, pick up a few of my favorite J.Crew pieces to take with me). Check out my current favorites below!

Favorite Accessory: Fall hats! Time to turn in your straw hat options and grab your felt/wool ones! I always think Target has the best and most affordable options (check them out here), so pick one up on your next visit to the world’s greatest place.

Favorite Album: The Head and the Heart’s new album, Signs of Light On repeat for most of this month (playing even as I write this post!), even though I didn’t really like it as much as their original albums when I first started listening to it. Anyone else a fan of The Head and the Heart?

Body Mary Retinol Surge Moisturizer

Favorite Beauty Product: Body Mary Retinol Surge Moisturizer. I probably haven’t been using this long enough to call it a favorite, but I am really liking the results from this. I’m no dermatologist, but it definitely seems to be evening out my skin tone. I might order this eye gel product from the same brand next to try and combat my dark, dark circles!

Favorite Cute (basically something that I think is cute): I’d like to redo my wedding (same groom of course)…with puppies instead of bouquets! Or maybe both! What a bunch of cuties!

Favorite Outfit: Completely a tie this month between this work look (complete with horseshoe cardigan) and this casual pre-fall utility jacket/skirt combo. Both in front of my favorite place to take pictures (somehow a purple/gray wall works with nearly every outfit)!

Be sure to leave your monthly favorite favorites in the comments! I’d love to hear about them!

ps. None of this is sponsored, and all of the favorite products reviewed were purchased by me (or me and The Husband when I slip them into the grocery cart)! ;)

Favorite Favorites, August 2016

Hello, my favorite blog readers! Today, I’m sharing my August/end of summer favorites. Consider it your heat wave of favorites!

affordable scallop ballet flats Target; Sam & Libby

Favorite Shoes: These amazing scallop beauties from Sam & Libby. Comfy, stylish, and affordable…those rarely combine for the fashion trifecta! So don’t mind me as I keep talking about my undying love for them and while I contemplate buying all four colors!

Favorite Clothing Item: It’s that magical time of year that puffer vests come back into stores! Hallelujah! Puffer vests might be the most underrated item of clothing out there, but I love all the layering options that they bring to the table. Old Navy, J.Crew Factory, and J.Crew have some great options (see them below). If you haven’t tried one yet, stick to a neutral (navy or black or white/cream) and build your collection from there…though I think my current favorite is that navy/white polka dot one from J.Crew Factory!

Now we just need the weather to cooperate with my style needs! ;)

Favorite Album: Ingrid Michaelson’s new album (snag it here). A little bit slower than her normal songs, but it has still managed to be played on repeat over here. “Still the One” is my favorite, and it is classic Ingrid!

Trader Joe's pickle flavored popcorn

Favorite Treat: This is going to sound like the weirdest snack, and it probably is, but Trader Joe’s Popcorn In A Pickle (aka pickle popcorn) is so good! And no, I’m not pregnant! If you hate dill pickles, you’ll hate this, but otherwise, definitely beyond worth the $1.99 that Trader Joe’s charges for it to try it.

After all, it is the real dill. ;) Don’t worry, I’ll show myself out now…

Favorite Cute: This baby and all her nap costumes! Best Instagram account ever! But seriously, that baby Eleven from Stranger Things killed me…so cute!

crisp morning air candle; Bath & Body Works

Favorite Candle: Crisp Morning Air from Bath & Body Works. The prettiest packaging and the most fall-smelling candle ever. Is it too soon to be burning fall candles? Probably, but once an early bird, always an early bird. Or something like that. ;)

Favorite Nail Polish Color: Still obsessing over “Rock the Runway” by Essie Gel Couture (here). I won’t try anything else, because the brush makes it SO easy to put on (this brush should be a requirement on ALL nail polishes), and I think it lasts such a looooong time (especially if you aren’t as antsy with your hands as I am).

ps. They also have a TON of other colors here! I might have to branch out and try a new one soon!

Katy Perry lipstick in Cat Call and Physician's Formula Concealer Twins

Favorite Beauty Product(s): Tie this month between my new concealer (yellow tint and regular tint) from Physician’s Formula (here) and Katy Perry’s lipstick in Cat Call (here). Has anyone tried any other winning colors from the Katy Perry collection? They all seem so bright or intense besides this one. Help?

If you missed my makeup post from two weeks ago, be sure to check out my other makeup favorites here!

Favorite Drink: Iced lattes using my Nespresso machine (this guy here) to make the espresso over ice cubes and then using my Aeroccino to whip up some cold milk. Magic, pure magic.

Favorite Outfit: Usually I have a hard time choosing a favorite outfit, but this fit and flare dress plus white shirt made for a runaway winner this month. Sometimes simplicity (and a favorite silhouette) is best! Though this one would have to be my favorite runner-up!

Be sure to leave your monthly favorite favorites in the comments! I’d love to hear about them!

Favorite Favorites, July 2016

Welcome to the second half of the year’s favorites! 2016 is flying by, but I am certainly finding some great items to share with you all, and these posts are still some of my favorites to write! So let’s get onto the good stuff, shall we?!

essie gel Rock the Runway nail polish

Favorite Beauty Product (and Nail Color): “Rock the Runway” by Essie Gel Couture (here). Literally, the perfect color for my nails. I love the at-home gel polishes, so when Essie launched their new, I had to try it. It’s a hefty investment upfront for the polish and the top coat (here – don’t forget this step!), but once you can get over that hurdle (or compare it to the cost of a nail salon manicure), you’ll love it!

ps. They also have a TON of other colors here!

Favorite Cute: I’m officially a Star Wars nerd now (she says in a whisper), so it made my week to see all these tiny, girl power Reys at Comic-Con this year (see photos here). A big YES for women in starring AND strong roles…and bonus points if they carry BB-8s around (because he’s my favorite character)!

boden fall 2016 catalog

Favorite Catalog: Guhhhh. Have you ever wanted an ENTIRE catalog? That’s how I felt about flipping through the Boden Fall 2016 catalog that arrived at my house this month. I felt like I pinned all my favorites, but I’m going to have to do some seriously damage to my wallet, if I want to order them all. My favorites are this coat, this striped dress, and this spotted purse. And you’ll just find me patiently not-so-patiently waiting for a sale over here. ;)

ps. My sunglasses are from Charming Charlie (here) and are only $9!!

Favorite Drink: Grapefruit LaCroixes. I’ve been drinking like three of them a day over here! It does wonders for your arm muscles trying to carry them across Target too! #hiddenbonus

Favorite Summer Activity: If you live or visit Indianapolis in the summer, you have to go to one of the Friday movie nights at the Indianapolis Art Museum. They play all kinds of classics (we’ve seen Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, etc.), and the venue is completely unique. People picnic before the show, and the museum sells wine/beer and other drinks to complete the experience. This year we saw Roman Holiday, which made me immediately want to 1.) visit Rome again and 2.) watch every Audrey Hepburn movie ever!

Favorite Clothing Item: Loft is killing it in the dress department lately! Every time that they add new arrivals to their site, I keep adding dresses to my wishlist. Here are just a few that I am coveting. You never know when you’ll need a dress, right?
Aveda smooth infusion hair product

Favorite Hair Product: Aveda Smooth Infusion Creme. Oh man, I hate to be “that” person, but I now think I am a product snob when it comes to hair products. Or really, product….singular. As in, this is the only product I currently use (besides shampoo and conditioner…and okay, dry shampoo when I am exceptionally lazy)!

I tried a new hair stylist back in May when I got my hair chopped off, and after hearing about my hair type, wants/needs, and maintenance level (minimal…hah!), she recommended this product. I love it! It smooths my frizz like no other product before, and it actually tames my hair as I air-dry it. It may be a little pricier than what I previously used, but I’ve had this bottle for two months and have barely put a dent in it!

All I do after I shower is comb through my hair, then put a nickel sized dot in my palm, rub my hands together, and run my hands through the bottom two-thirds of my hair once or twice. Then I run my fingertips through the top third of my hair (so it isn’t too oily/greasy up there) once or twice and comb it through again. You can then air dry it or blow dry (or a mix of both, which is what I usually do) and you’re good to go!

Favorite Shoes: I can’t stop wearing these block heels from Sole Society. Comfy straight out of the box, and they go with EVERYTHING. Definitely a great birthday present to myself! Now, do I get the yellow ones or the striped ones next?! ;)

s'mores oreos at Target

Favorite Treat: S’mores Oreos…or s’moreos as we call them in my household! Have you had these? If not, you have not lived! They’re dangerously good and are only available during summer, so I definitely recommend grabbing a package soon if you want to try them! Yum, yum, yum!

Favorite Outfit: Not exactly the most outrageous and elaborate outfit ever, but it’s been WAY too hot here to even attempt that, so I would say that this simple little chambray/skirt combo outfit was my favorite of the month (and features this month’s favorite shoes too)!

Be sure to leave your monthly favorite favorites in the comments! I’d love to hear about them!

ps. None of this is sponsored, and all of the favorite products reviewed were purchased by me (or me and The Husband when I slip them into the grocery cart)! ;)

Favorite Favorites, June 2016

Fav-fav-fav-favvvvooorites! And halfway through 2016? Saaaay whaaaaaaaaaat?

Was that enough extra a’s for you?

Today, I’m rounding up my June favorites, and ready to tell you ALL about them!

wicker clutch for summer style

Favorite Accessory: This wicker clutch that I scored for $10 on Poshmark! It’s the perfect summer accessory! It’s just the right size for going out for drinks (I took it to the Indy bloggers meet up and out for tapas with my girlfriends) or for grabbing when you are so hot and don’t want a crossbody weighing you down! I’ve rounded up some similar ones below…or you can search “wicker clutch” for yourself on Poshmark!

ps. My nail polish is my favorite shade (here) right now from Sally Hansen! Can’t stop…won’t stop!

Favorite Book: I apparently have been reading it forever, since I posted about it back in January (whoa) but I finally finished and loved Career of Evil, the third book in the Cormoran Strike series (here) by Robert Galbraith, aka the great J.K. Rowling. The first one in the series was still my favorite, but this one was also super good. If she could just come out with a new book every month that would be great.

Target mini wedge sandals | Style On Target

Favorite Shoes: Notice anything that you’ve seen before? Jokes. I’m pretty sure I wore one of these pairs of mini wedge sandals (get them here) on the blog at least every other day…if not every day…for the whole month!

A couple of you have asked about them, and they are fantastic (Target’s online reviews agree with me). They’re super comfy and easy to slip on and off. I walked 7 miles one day when we were in St. Louis wearing the orange pair, and I had no blisters and my feet weren’t sore at all! The only downer I can see with them…is they don’t come in more colors/patterns (how cute would a polka dot pair be?)!

Favorite “Splurge”: Fresh flowers….and I don’t care where they come from. The Husband bought me this gorgeous hydrangea for my birthday (see it here…it was literally the size of my head), and I also got to enjoy a mixed bouquet from Trader Joe’s and peonies earlier this month from Fresh Market. Just a bit of color and life to brighten up the day is so nice!

Covergirl Outlast Foundation review

Favorite Beauty Product: Covergirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous foundation. I used to be loyal to Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue foundation, but then one of my besties recommended giving this a try. I was looking for something that was just as light feeling, but provided more coverage, and this just seems to fit both of those qualifications. I do mix it with a little bit of my moisturizer (this bad boy here) when applying it, so that helps add some of the moisture that I was getting from the Bare Minerals. Definitely would recommend giving this a try…especially given it is a fourth of the price of the Bare Minerals!

Favorite App: If you guys take a lot of pictures with your phone and haven’t downloaded A Color Story yet…you MUST! It is a photo editing app for your phone, and it really transforms your pictures! I bought all the filters, but the free ones are really good as well. I love how bright the whites are and how bold the colors get with this app! Highly, highly recommend!

Skinny Pop Dusted Dark Chocolate

Favorite Treat: I am slowly realizing that I am a HUGE popcorn fan! And then I discovered Skinny Pop’s Dusted Dark Chocolate popcorn (here), and became an even bigger fan! It’s salty and decadent and just sweet enough to make me feel like I’m really getting a treat! Highly recommended if you are a popcorn and dark chocolate fan!

Favorite Cute: I haven’t even seen the movie yet (so no spoilers, please!), but isn’t baby Dory (from the new Pixar movie, Finding Dory) the CUTEST (see her here)?! I think I’m going to have to beg The Husband to take me to see it this weekend.

Chrissy Teigen Cravings cookbook

Favorite Cookbook: Look what my brother got me for my birthday! Chrissy Teigen’s cookbook (get it here)! I’ve only made on dish from it so far, but it was delicious, and I can’t wait to cook up the entire catalog later this year! I love cookbooks that have big photos of each dish…and Chrissy’s delivers on that, in case you’re like me and like to know exactly what you’re making (and how it is suppose to look)!

ps. I posted a similar photo on my Instagram (here), and Chrissy, herself, liked it. Yaaaaaassss!

Favorite OutfitI was so obsessed with this print mixing look that features one of my oldest Target items! I would wear this over and over and over again!

Be sure to leave your monthly favorite favorites in the comments! I’d love to hear about them!

ps. None of this is sponsored, and all of the favorite products reviewed were purchased by me (or me and The Husband when I slip them into the grocery cart)! ;)
