Classy Leopard

Nothing like a bedazzled sweater and a leopard print coat to end your Tuesday on, huh? I’m loving the ability to “shop my own closet” now that the Capsule Challenge has ended.

I haven’t worn these green jeans in ages, and while they may be a bit tight right now (I blame my mom’s 7-Layer Dip and my lack of willpower), I’m hoping to get a lot more use of things I already own.

I also need someone to keep reminding me of this given all the end of the year/post-Christmas sales going on now…

ps. I got my hair trimmed right before the holiday, and my bangs are NEARLY grown out. I think it took a full year, and I’m super impressed that I didn’t have them cut back into bangs (given that lack of willpower mentioned above). Go me. ;)

Fall Capsule #1: Sometimes

Sometimes you wear outfits that you love, love, love (see here and here), and sometimes you wear outfits that are just meh. I’m not really talking about this outfit, because I do like this one (and the hat kept my hair dry from the misting rain), but about another outfit that I had planned to go up today (think swan shirt + leather skirt + blue tights).

I wore the outfit, took the photos, and went to go edit them, and just didn’t feel it. Sometimes, you just want to try something new (especially when you’re nearing the end of wearing the same 43 items over and over again), but once on, it’s not your cup of tea (or coffee).

Maybe black and blue doesn’t work all the time. Maybe blue tights (despite being awesome) just aren’t your thing. Maybe you should use your iron more. ;)

It’s not all success over here, folks. It never is! AS much, as I’d like for it to be! But that’s the beauty of this capsule challenge. It’s taught me a lot: I’m 100% not a minimalist, I like prints and patterns (the more swans, the better!), I like color, and I like to be unrestricted (for the most part) when it comes to what I can wear on any given day.

So while a lot of people may not dig this outfit (or the last one or the next one or the next next one), I dig what it has shown me! All that from a little 6-piece outfit, huh?

Fall Capsule #1: Orange You Glad

Today’s fun highlights:

  • This orange peacoat makes everything better.
  • Off today (and the rest of the Fridays in 2014). Hip hip hooray!
  • Some of our Christmas presents got wrapped this week (thanks to Thursday night football), and I can’t wait to spend some time with my loved ones the next two weekends.
  • The Puppy (Cooper) has been extra cuddly this week, and we’ve been playing many rounds of his favorite game, “Hide and Seek.” Basically, we throw his stuffed toy (which we call a “baby”, don’t judge us too much if you hear us say “Go get us a baby”) up or down a set of stairs and then hide. He runs, gets the toy, and then tries to find us. It’s hilarious if he can’t find you and extra cute when he does, because he’s so proud and happy. That pup is a keeper for sure!
  • Almost everything I bought from during Black Friday was a major flop, which is sad because it was a cheat day on my no-spending ban, but good in the fact that I’m not just “settling” for items. I’m slowly but surely learning what I like and what looks good. Yay! One thing I did love? This plaid sweater (just $12 this week!).
  • 64 outfits down. 9 to go! I’m only pushing through to the end because I hate quitters.
Today’s not-so-fun highlights:
  • After last weekend’s expensive car tune ups (The Husband ended up having notable issues with his brakes), I have to go to the dentist tomorrow. I’m also a big baby, and my mom made my dentist appointment for me. #perpetually12

Happy weekend, friends! What are you up to?

Fall Capsule #1: In-VEST-ed

True life: I’ve worn this outfit three times since getting this vest in the last three weeks. It’s the perfect cure for those winter time blues.

I love the mix of the navy/green vest with the camel colored sweater, and I love to top it all off with this cute little beanie (which is the steal of the century from Old Navy). Plus, this vest is so fluffy and is practically a built-in personal heater. Which is great, if you can get past the fact that it makes you a bit “fluffier.”

Blame it on the vest, blame it on the six Thanksgiving meals you had this past week, or blame it on all those holiday cookies from your co-workers…just don’t blame it on me!

Fall Capsule #1: Whirlwind Weekend

Holy cats, guys. I needed this weekend, but somehow, I also needed another four days tacked onto it! I had a great time chilling with my family, making eating way too many delicious cookies, online shopping my butt off, and watching my two favorite football teams win (go Colts and go Indiana University…keep that Olde Oaken Bucket)!

I’ve also reached the last month of my capsule challenge! I’m excited to stretch my closet (which shouldn’t be that hard) for another 19 outfits and then move onto the piles of sweaters that have not seen the light of day since this challenge started. I miss you rest of my closet.

I am planning on cleaning out my closet/drawers/shoe racks, because I definitely need to get rid of some stuff. I have missed some pieces and then also realized I don’t miss other pieces. I’m also excited to continue to develop my style, which this blog has definitely helped to do, and see what missing pieces I have to compile my 2015 Wishlist (since I feel my 2014 Wishlist has been successful). I’m still not sure if I’m planning on doing a winter capsule, but if I do, it won’t be until 2015.

How about you? Are you doing a winter capsule? How was your Thanksgiving!?
