Save or Splurge?, Vol. 19: Zip Platform Wedges

Save or Splurge? is a post where I’ll show you an item from Target and its higher end cousin.

So, this weekend, I was just minding my own business when I stumbled across these MICHAEL by Michael Kors platform wedge sandals, and in my mind, I knew I had seen them before. So of course, since most of my time is spent stalking browsing the Target shelves, I knew it was probably there. Per usual, I was right (Katie Knows Most is an inside joke with some of my friends and frequently a trivia team name…I promise I am only partially conceited)! Check out the nearly identical ones from Target and enjoy an extra $70 for buying some more summer wear!

Both come in at least two other colors in addition to this great navy. The MICHAEL by Michael Kors version is on the left and sells for $99.99 at Macys (here). The pair on the right is Merona brand at Target and retails for $29.99 (here). Check them out! They’d be perfect for all those summer time weddings and events!

Save or Splurge?, Vol. 18: Polka Dot Scarf

Save or Splurge? is a post where I’ll show you an item from Target and its higher end cousin.

After two weeks of hit-or-miss footwear trends, I’m back with a much milder topic. POLKA DOTS! The fun and flirty print that I love a lot (and I bet a lot of you do too)!

Both scarves are meant to be square neck scarves (or perfect for tying on a purse handle/strap). And both feature a classic take of the polka dot pattern in black and white, which is oh so chic! The one on the left is a silk Dolce & Gabbana scarf and sells for $395! The scarf on the right is from Target (though polyester) and retails for $16.99.

Pretty close looks, huh?!

Save or Splurge?, Vol. 17: Birkenstock-Style Sandals

Save or Splurge? is a post where I’ll show you an item from Target and its higher end cousin.

Two weeks in a row of “controversial” footwear? Yeah, I like to live on the edge here at Style On Target. See last week’s post on peep toe booties (here) and get ready to debate Birkenstocks.

Let me just say that I should never say never (thanks Taylor Swift!), but there is a 99% chance that Birkenstock style sandals will never grace my feet. I just can’t get behind the slide style sandals…ever. But to each their own, and this sandal is making a HUGE appearance on and off the runway this year. If you are on the lookout for a pair of silver (or black) Birkenstock sandals, keep reading! The sandal on the left is the official Birkenstock sandal (here) and sells for $130. The one on the right is from Target’s Sam & Libby brand (here) and retails for $100 less (aka $30 for you non-math people).

What do you think? Are you Team Birkenstock? Don’t worry, we can still be friends!

Save or Splurge?, Vol. 16: Peep Toe Cognac Booties

Save or Splurge? is a post where I’ll show you an item from Target and its higher end cousin.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I’m a little late to get on board with this trend. I saw these peep toe booties in a variety of colors at Target in like January. And HATED them. Then I tried a similar pair on at Kohl’s the other day while waiting for The Husband to figure out what dress shirt he wanted to buy. And LOVED them. There’s really no reason to not love them. They’re like ankle boots, but for spring! I just couldn’t get over the peep toe until I tried them on (Cinderella moment, anyone?). The Husband purchased the Kohls version for me in a beige color, but now I’m trying to justify another color.

Insert this week’s Save or Splurge post. Both pairs come in at least 3 different colors (4 for the Steve Maddens) and feature a wood blocked heel. Target’s version of the peep toe booties (on the right – here) retails for $35 (though I have seen them start to make their way to the 30% off shoe rack in stores lately) and is fake leather. The Steve Madden version is 100% leather upper and has a slightly higher heel (retails for $100 – here).

So what do you think? Are you loving the peep toe bootie look or no?!

Save or Splurge?, Vol. 15: Navy & White Satchels

Save or Splurge? is a post where I’ll show you an item from Target and its higher end cousin.

There is nothing I love more than a crisp, classic combination (especially featuring one of favorite color combination: blue and white – go Colts!), so that’s why I had to feature these two bags today. Both are small satchel shapes. Both come with a crossbody strap and top handles. Both feature gorgeous navy blues and crisp whites. The price difference? $415!

The bag on the left is from Kate Spade (here) and sells for $448. It’s gorgeous and is real pebbled leather with matching trim. Its next-door neighbor is from Target (here) and retails for $33. It is very pretty and is 100% polyurethane (aka not leather).

I love how closely the Target version mirrors the Kate Spade one, but I actually am not a fan of how wrinkly the fake leather looks in the stock photo. It was so close to being there too! Does anyone have this bag in real life and can vouch for it?
